Job details:
About Little Minds at WorkAt Little Minds at Work, we design thoughtful, engaging products that spark curiosity, creativity, and independent thinking in children. Our toys are not just for play—they’re tools for exploration, learning, and meaningful development.
We’re building a team that cares deeply about how children interact with the world—and we’re looking for a Toy Designer who can turn powerful ideas into beautifully crafted, production-ready products.
About the RoleThis is a 0→1 + 1→100 role.
You’ll take toy concepts from early ideas all the way to prototype, testing, and commercial production. You won’t just design how it looks—you’ll shape how it works, feels, and scales in the real world.
If you enjoy solving for “How does this actually get made?” as much as “What should we create?”, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Do- Develop original toy concepts rooted in learning, play patterns, and child behavior
- Translate ideas into sketches, CAD models, and working prototypes
- Design for hands-on, open-ended play, not just aesthetics
- Build and test prototypes (3D prints, mockups, material explorations)
- Choose materials and mechanisms that are safe, durable, and cost-effective
- Work closely with manufacturers and vendors to move from prototype to production
- Create production-ready documentation (CAD files, BOMs, assembly details)
- Iterate designs based on user testing (kids!), safety standards, and cost targets
- Oversee sampling, tooling, and pre-production to ensure quality
- Ensure compliance with relevant toy safety standards (BIS, EN71, ASTM)
What We’re Looking For- Background in Toy Design / Industrial Design / Product Design
- A portfolio showing end-to-end ownership (idea → prototype → production)
- Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, or similar)
- Understanding of materials (wood, plastic, fabric) and manufacturing processes
- Experience with hands-on prototyping
- Ability to design for real-world constraints: cost, durability, scalability
- Sensitivity to how children think, play, and learn
- Strong collaboration skills—especially with vendors and cross-functional teams
Nice to Have- Experience with educational or Montessori-inspired toys
- Exposure to packaging and unboxing experience design
- Familiarity with Indian manufacturing ecosystems
- Basic understanding of mechanisms or simple electronics (for interactive play)
What Success Looks Like- Ideas turn into thoughtful, testable prototypes quickly
- Products are intuitive, engaging, and developmentally meaningful
- Smooth transition from design → manufacturing with minimal friction
- High-quality products that parents trust and children love
Why Join Us- Opportunity to shape products that genuinely impact how children learn and grow
- Work closely with a small, driven team building from the ground up
- End-to-end ownership—your ideas won’t stay on paper
- A culture that values curiosity, craft, and purpose over noise
How to ApplySend us:
- Your portfolio
- A short note on a product you’ve taken from concept to production
- (Optional) Your thoughts on what makes a toy truly meaningful for a child
