Parks Maintenance Worker I

About the Department

Under close supervision, ensures a safe and clean environment by performing park and facility maintenance.

Position Duties

• Clears and cleans structures, sidewalks and facilities of damages and liabilities and verifies areas are in clean and safe working conditions.
• Conducts landscaping and grooming of athletic fields and turf areas, bicycle and pedestrian oasis locations, trails, Town Hall Campus, and other areas as assigned.
• Implements safety procedures and guidelines for park maintenance.
• Irrigates the grounds and parks, operates equipment, and prepares the areas for public activities.
• Performs park and facility maintenance on Town of Oro Valley assets.
• Picks up and empties trash at park locations and performs custodial duties.
  
  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

• Ability to clean and maintain park grounds, park equipment and facilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety guidelines.
• Knowledge of park maintenance and beautification methods.
• Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
• Skill in irrigation installation and repair.
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED.
• One (1) year experience in commercial landscape maintenance or custodial operations.  

• Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Other Qualifications

• Work is performed in an outdoor environment.
• Must be able to lift or move up to (50) pounds.
• Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
