Tourism Australia is looking for a Strategic Analyst to join our Strategy & Research team. This role is critical in shaping our data-driven decision-making, providing quantitative insights that drive our marketing effectiveness, performance evaluation, and long-term industry strategy.


Working closely with teams across the organisation, you’ll analyse global tourism trends, evaluate market performance, and support the development of industry insights that inform Tourism Australia’s strategic direction.


Reporting to the General Manager, Strategy & Analysis, your key responsibilities would be:


Reporting, Insights & Analysis

  • Conduct quantitative strategic analysis on global tourism trends, identifying key industry movements and providing actionable insights.
  • Proactively monitor and report on performance trends across economic, aviation, and tourism indicators.
  • Develop competitive analysis, benchmarking Australia’s performance against other global destinations.
  • Research and assess emerging and evolving markets to identify new opportunities.
  • Design and maintain high-quality reports using Power BI, ensuring insights are both accessible and impactful.


Stakeholder Engagement & Data Advocacy

  • Manage a suite of Power BI dashboards and work with a data team in managing the data pipelines, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Support internal teams, regional offices, and external stakeholders with data-driven insights and reporting.
  • Assist in automating and streamlining tourism data sources into the organisation’s central business intelligence systems.
  • Evaluate and integrate alternative data sources to enhance Tourism Australia’s market intelligence.


What We’re Looking For

  • Strong analytical skills with experience in marketing, economic, market, or performance analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and ability to work on third party pivot tables.
  • A keen eye for identifying trends, connecting insights, and translating data into strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and provide clear, concise, and insightful reports.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Someone who thrives both independently and within a close-knit team.

About You

You’re a strategic thinker with a strong analytical mindset and a passion for travel, Australia and uncovering insights that drive decision-making. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities while delivering high-quality analysis that informs Tourism Australia’s strategy.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:


  • Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, economics, research (quantitative), marketing, or aviation.
  • At least two years’ experience in a consulting firm, professional services environment, or corporate strategy team.
  • Proficiency in Power BI for data management, modelling, and visualisation (with at least one year as your primary analytics tool).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting data-driven findings to a range of stakeholders.
  • Well-developed organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • High-level quantitative analysis skills, with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.


Not essential but ideally:

  • Experience in econometric forecasting and modelling.
  • Experience in marketing media data sets.
