Role Description The Tool Room Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Chinchwad, responsible for overseeing daily operations of the tool room and ensuring timely availability of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for production. The role involves planning and allocating work, supervising tool makers and technicians, monitoring preventive maintenance schedules, and coordinating tool repairs and modifications. The Tool Room Manager will maintain inventory of tools and consumables, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve tooling issues. This position also includes reviewing technical drawings, optimizing tool designs for manufacturability, and implementing process improvements to reduce downtime and enhance tool life. Regular reporting on tool room performance, cost control, and adherence to delivery timelines is expected.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in tool room management, including supervision of tool makers and technicians and coordination with production and maintenance teams.
- Hands-on expertise with tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and machining processes (e.g., milling, grinding, turning, EDM), including tool maintenance and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and collaborate with design and manufacturing teams on tooling solutions.
- Knowledge of quality control practices, measurement instruments (e.g., micrometers, vernier calipers, gauges), and adherence to safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing inventory, planning preventive maintenance, and optimizing tool usage to control costs and minimize downtime.
- Relevant technical qualification such as a Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, or a related discipline.
- Proven organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet production deadlines.
- Effective communication and people management skills, with the ability to train and mentor team members.
- Prior experience in the automotive or automotive tooling sector, ideally in a similar tool room or production support role.
