About the role
Job Summary:
The Medical Coder extern will gain practical experience by shadowing a variety of TWH Revenue Cycle Team Members to observe daily tasks, learn about the industry, and gain a better understanding of a coder role in the OB/GYN medical field.
Key Aspects of the Together Women's Health Medical Coder Externship:
Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy, with submission of documentation to health plan upon request.
Review provider documentation and identify areas that might be insufficient or unclear.
Assist with assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes.
Works with the RCM team to ensure billing codes accurately reflect each patient's diagnosis and performed procedures.
Research code guidelines and payor policies and report findings.
Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Education and Skills:
Active AAPC certification, such as CPC, CPC-A, or COBGC
Completed a formal medical coding education program
Solid communication skills both written and oral
Athena Healthcare EMR a plus
