SUMMARY:
The RN Quality Residency Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing the resident rotation program within the Quality Department. This role provides education, structure, and support to residents and providers as they learn quality principles, complete a quality improvement (QI) project, and prepare final presentations. The coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for residents, ensures alignment with departmental expectations, and applies clinical expertise to enhance learning and promote patient safety and quality outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plans, organizes, and oversees all aspects of resident rotations within the Quality Department, ensuring an effective learning experience and adherence to established schedules and objectives.
- Guides residents through each phase of their QI project, providing structure, instruction, and support to ensure timely advancement and successful completion of deliverables.
- Schedules and leads meetings, Gemba walks, trainings, and project-related activities in collaboration with interdisciplinary staff and departmental leaders.
- Delivers instruction covering quality concepts, Lean methodologies, PDCA, and related process improvement tools to support resident development and project competency.
- Assists residents in developing required documentation, data summaries, storyboards, and final presentations in accordance with department standards and timelines.
- Maintains ongoing communication, provides guidance, and collaborates with internal stakeholders such as at the Graduate Medical ED council and AIM teaching faculty to ensure residents receive appropriate support throughout their rotation.
- Utilizes clinical judgment to contextualize quality concepts, identify workflow and safety risks, and enhance resident learning during clinical observations and project activities.
- Evaluates residents’ performance upon completion of their rotation and monitor projects to best hand off to other areas or residents
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience required.
- Experience in quality improvement, patient safety, or process improvement preferred.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:
- Current RN Licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona required.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or other quality certifications preferred.

- Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies (PDCA, Lean, basic DMAIC, PI tools).
- Strong organizational, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple activities and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Ability to teach and coach others on quality tools and concepts.
- Strong critical thinking and clinical assessment skills.
- Ability to develop professional presentations and written materials.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
