IIS is seeking a High-Performance Throws Coach to lead the development of athletes in shot put, discus, javelin, and hammer within the Indian high-performance pathway.
The coach will work with both male and female athletes, progressing talent from U20 and national level to Asian and World-class performance, in close collaboration with the Head Coach Athletics (IIS) and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Athlete Development
• Deliver high-performance coaching across throwing events
• Develop individualized training approaches based on athlete profile
• Progress athletes from junior to international level
• Provide clear, actionable feedback in training and competition
Performance Development
• Improve key metrics such as release velocity, efficiency, and consistency
• Integrate strength, speed, and power into throwing performance
• Ensure effective transfer from gym work to competition
System Collaboration (India-Specific)
• Work within IIS and coordinate with national bodies (e.g., AFI/SAI) as required
• Support structured athlete pathways (junior → senior elite)
• Adapt to varying training environments and resources
Competition & Analysis
• Prepare athletes for national and international competitions
• Develop competition strategies and routines
• Use video and performance tracking for technical improvement
Athlete Management
• Build strong, trust-based relationships with athletes and staff
• Communicate effectively in a culturally diverse environment
• Support athletes through performance pressure and technical changes
Injury Prevention & Load Management
• Monitor workload and movement quality
• Collaborate with medical and S&C staff
• Balance performance progression with long-term athlete health
Requirements
• Proven experience in high-performance throws coaching
• Strong knowledge of biomechanics, technique, and power development
• Experience in planning and periodization
• Ability to work in resource-variable environments
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Must be an Indian citizen
Preferred
• Experience within Indian or Asian high-performance systems
• Experience with federation or government-supported programs
• Background in sport science or biomechanics
• Track record of developing athletes to national/international level
Qualifications
• Minimum World Athletics Level II (or higher)
• Degree/diploma in Sport Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
