We are seeking seasoned Workday Functional Leads (HCM & Financials) for a high-impact, 3-month engagement critical to the success of a Workday implementation. In this role, you will lead deep functional discovery with HR and Finance leaders, translate complex business needs into precise Workday requirements, and produce a polished, evaluation-ready RFP that enables an objective, defensible vendor selection.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead structured discovery workshops with HR, Finance, Payroll, Budget, Procurement, and related teams to document current-state challenges, regulatory considerations, and prioritized future-state outcomes
· Own and maintain the functional scope and assumptions package, including in-scope/out-of-scope definitions, dependencies, risks, constraints, and recommended implementation phasing
· Author, review, and finalize all Workday HCM and Financials functional RFP content—requirements, workflows, business rules, security roles, controls, reporting, and compliance—written clearly for vendor execution
· Define proposal-level expectations for integrations and data conversion, including key interfaces, source/target systems, data flows, and third-party dependencies
· Establish clear expectations for the system integrator’s delivery approach (design, configuration, testing, training, change management, cutover, and stabilization) to ensure proposals are directly comparable
· Drive a disciplined execution cadence by managing the workplan, facilitating weekly check-ins, maintaining decisions and RAID logs, and coordinating with IT, Security, and Procurement to align functional, technical, and sourcing requirements
· Act as the primary Workday functional liaison between business stakeholders and the selected system integrator
· Validate functional designs and configuration decisions against approved RFP requirements and scope assumptions
· Support testing strategy execution, UAT planning, and defect triage and prioritization
· Assist with change management, training readiness, and business process adoption
· Support cutover planning and post–go-live stabilization
· Provide continuity from procurement through implementation delivery
Requirements
Required Qualifications
· Proven experience leading Workday HCM and Financials functional discovery, requirements definition, and scope and assumptions documentation
· Workday Pro Certification required for the primary functional area (HCM or Financials); additional Workday certifications strongly preferred
· Demonstrated success authoring or contributing to Workday RFIs/RFPs and supporting procurement artifacts (requirements matrices, demo scripts, evaluation criteria), ideally within public-sector or highly regulated environments
· Strong end-to-end knowledge of Workday business processes across HCM, Payroll, Finance, Budget, and Procurement
· Ability to facilitate cross-functional workshops, resolve competing priorities, and document decisions with audit- and procurement-ready traceability
· Track record of delivering high-quality written deliverables under tight timelines while managing stakeholders, approvals, and dependencies within a 3-month window
Additional requirements
· Ability to pass a criminal background check.
· Authorized to work in the US for any employer.
· Local in the Chicagoland area
