About the role

Join The Washington Post Data/AI team as a Summer Software Engineer Intern to design and build scalable APIs, data pipelines, and backend services that power personalized news experiences. Work onsite in DC with expert engineers and gain real-world experience deploying production-level applications using Python, Node.js, or Java. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate on building scalable backend services and data infrastructure Develop and maintain APIs and data pipelines Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance Participate in code reviews and technical documentation Work with cross-functional teams for delivering data-driven user experiences Required Qualifications: Senior year in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field Experience with backend development using Python, Node.js, or Java Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative development Experience deploying production applications Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience with AWS or other cloud services Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases Familiarity with API design and RESTful services
