Job Description:
The University of Toledo invites applications for a Tenure Track position of Assistant Professor of Ceramics and Ceramic Materials to start August 24, 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses (introduction through advanced levels) in ceramics as agreed upon in consultation with the chair. Candidates with traditional or interdisciplinary artistic practices are encouraged to apply.
The University of Toledo Department of Art welcomes applications for a permanent, benefited, Tenure Track position of Assistant Professor of Ceramics and Ceramic Materials position. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing clean, safe, well-equipped ceramics studio spaces.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the budget related to the running of the Ceramics studio and working with the Chair and secretary to maintain a balanced spreadsheet.
The successful candidate will incorporate inclusive thinking and support for representation of diverse viewpoints while utilizing multiple methods of content delivery for effective teaching, including BlackBoard.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must have the ability to teach all ceramic techniques including Ceramics chemistry, hand building, wheel throwing, mold making, glaze making, 3D ceramic printing, safe studio maintenance, mixed media and slip casting. They must also be familiar with multiple firing techniques including gas reduction, electric oxidation, sawdust, pit, and raku firings. The candidate must have experience that includes knowledge of kiln firing, construction, repair and operation, kiln shelf and furniture care, as well as the maintenance of other machinery (3D clay printer, clay mixer, pug mill, spray booth, standing-kick and electric wheels). A commitment to safe mineral and chemical stocking/supply and inventory is crucial, as well as deep familiarity with glaze chemistry and clay body formulation.
