The Dean of Students at the Early Education Center works closely with children in their moments of need, in partnership with the teacher, the parents and caregivers, and other school leaders. Supporting the child, helping to train them in the habits and social and emotional strategies to be successful in the school community is a critical component of Early Education.
Founded in 1998, The Oaks Academy is a Christ-centered school that exists to provide a rich, classical education to children of diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, preparing them to succeed in a rigorous secondary educational program and to demonstrate spiritual, social and emotional maturity. Currently on four campuses, serving over 1100 students, The Oaks Academy will continue to grow to serve more children.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Understands and promotes the mission, core values, standards, and policies of the school, effectively supporting habit formation
- Demonstrates an understanding of early childhood development and implements research-based strategies including the supports needed for students with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and trauma
- Completes behavioral and mental health referrals to community partners
- Collects and maintains student academic records and permanent records
- Conducts and documents behavioral observations inside the classroom and on the playground
- Provides timely and principle-based student support, as directed by the Head of School
- Proactively identifies and implements research-based interventions with an emphasis on supporting students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other times that may require a high level of support
- Meets with students at the request of teachers according to the communication protocol.
- Participates in regular meetings with the Heads of School to present behavioral data analysis
- Provides daily behavioral debriefs with the Head of School and maintains regular communication regarding relationships and interactions with students, teachers, and families
- Maintains availability to meet with parents to discuss student needs before school, during school, and after school
- Collaborates on the creation and implementation of student behavior and probation plans
- Effectively utilizes technology to ensure documentation of student behavioral needs are thoroughly prepared and presented as a part of the Pre-Kindergarten to Kindergarten/Kindergarten Foundations transition protocol
