About the role

The Tax Accountant role is a key position designed for detail-oriented professionals with a solid foundation in tax accounting and compliance. Reporting to the Senior Tax Accountant, the Tax Accountant will assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensure compliance with tax regulations, and support various tax-related activities within the organization.

Description

This is primarily an in-person position, with openness to a hybrid arrangement based in Eureka, California.

This position supports our tax department and involves handling various tax-related tasks and responsibilities. You will assist in tax operations and perform the following duties:

Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all regulations.
Assist in the preparation of tax provision calculations and related financial statement disclosures.
Preparer work-papers from QuickBooks Online work files.
Conduct research on tax issues and provide findings to senior tax staff.
Monitor and ensure compliance with tax filing deadlines and requirements.
Maintain accurate and organized tax records and documentation.
Assist in responding to tax notices and inquiries from tax authorities.
Support the Senior Tax Accountant in tax planning and strategy development.
Participate in tax audits and assist in the preparation of audit documentation.
Identify opportunities for tax process improvements and contribute to their implementation.
Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company’s tax position.

Qualifications for Tax Accountant:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) required
Minimum of 2 years of tax accounting experience.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and compliance requirements.
Proficiency in tax software (Lacerte) and ERP systems; intermediate Excel skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Gets You to the Top of the List:

Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation.
Experience with tax planning.
Previous experience in a public accounting firm or a corporate tax department.
Proficiency in tax research and analysis.
Familiarity with tax provision calculations and financial statement impacts.
