About the role

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for an Interpreter to join the Interpreting Services team.  Facilitates communication between patients and service providers by interpreting the message spoken by each party into a second language. Assignments may involve multiple encounters with patients and providers. Facilitation may occur either in person or by telephone.

Your role in action:

  • Assists in facilitating oral communication between staff and consumers in an accurate and thorough manner.
  • Recognizes and honors the confidential nature of information conveyed in the performance of interpreting duties.
  • Maintains impartiality while assisting with interpreting communication between the patient and service providers.
  • Renders interpreter services in a respectful manner
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional conduct in all job duties performed and in the work environment.
  • Performs related work as assigned and adapts to changing work requirements.
  • Assists in translating agency documentation from English to requested language.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D required.

 Experience:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in interpretive services, required.

Other Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas driver’s license, required.
  • Current Automobile insurance, required.
  • Must pass the agency’s language certification exam.

 Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to speak, read and understand the English and Spanish language at a level that permits the individual to interact effectively with the patient and service provider.
