Job Description Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Paralegal to join the North American Operating Unit (NAOU) Marketing Legal Team supporting one of the company’s most dynamic and fast‑moving functions. This role is central to providing legal support for a high‑volume portfolio of advertising and marketing initiatives across multiple channels and platforms—including digital‑first, data‑driven, social, e‑commerce, and emerging technology‑enabled marketing.
Serving as the day‑to‑day legal liaison for the NAOU Marketing Function, the Senior Paralegal will support marketing and advertising legal review, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation for consumer‑facing campaigns and communications. The ideal candidate is a seasoned legal professional who operates independently under attorney supervision, brings deep expertise in advertising and consumer protection law, and balances strong legal judgment with a pragmatic, business‑oriented approach in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
What You’ll Do for Us:
Provide supervised legal and business advice to cross-functional business partners regarding day-to-day marketing legal matters, including:
Promotions and sponsorships, advertising claims, third-party intellectual property rights, digital and social media campaigns, influencer and content creator best practices, digital advertising compliance (including behavioral targeting, and platform-specific ad policies), basic privacy guardrails (including the collection and use of identifiable consumer data, cookie consent mechanisms, and cross-platform tracking), and emerging issues related to the use of AI-generated content and other advanced technologies in marketing.
Review and approve all types of marketing materials across all media channels — including digital display, paid social media,, email marketing, mobile app content, e-commerce product pages, broadcast, print, out-of-home, point-of-sale, packaging, retail media networks, and emerging platforms — for compliance with applicable federal, state, and local advertising and consumer protection laws, FTC Act guidelines, FDA regulations, CAN-SPAM Act, TCPA, applicable state and federal data privacy laws, and third-party intellectual property rights.
Identify advertising and marketing claims, including health, wellness, nutritional, and comparative claims in an environment of evolving regulatory expectations.
Support the legal team's compliance initiatives by identifying potential legal and regulatory risks in marketing campaigns and proactively escalating issues to attorneys as appropriate.
Manage the day-to-day legal review process within the company's review and approval platform, ensuring marketing materials — including digital assets with rapid turnaround requirements — proceed efficiently through the approval workflow while maintaining thorough documentation of legal review.
Assist the business in the development, drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts that reflect agreed-upon business terms, including but not limited to sponsorship agreements, promotional agreements, influencer, talent agreements, and technology vendor agreements supporting digital marketing operations.
Leverage AI tools, marketing technology (MarTech) platforms, and legal technology solutions to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of legal review workflows, marketing compliance processes, digital asset compliance tracking, and research tasks.
Serve as a digital compliance resource by monitoring emerging legal and regulatory developments affecting digital marketing — including updates to FTC guidance on digital advertising and endorsements, state and federal data privacy legislation, AI regulation, and platform policy changes — and proactively communicate relevant updates to the legal team and business stakeholders.
Partner with digital marketing operations, data analytics, and technology teams to embed legal and compliance guardrails into digital marketing workflows, marketing automation systems, and consumer data collection processes.
Participate in additional cross-functional projects and initiatives as assigned by the legal team.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or associate's degree in paralegal studies from an ABA-accredited program, or a bachelor's degree in a related field with a paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program.
- 7–10 years of experience as a transactional paralegal, with significant experience in advertising, marketing, and/or consumer products law, including meaningful exposure to digital marketing compliance.
- Experience in an in-house legal team, preferably within a large consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, or similarly situated company.
- Demonstrated experience with federal, state, and local consumer protection laws, FDA regulations, FTC Endorsement Guides, CAN-SPAM Act, TCPA, and applicable data privacy regulations (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, COPPA) as they relate to advertising, marketing, and digital marketing compliance.
- Experience working with AI tools and marketing technology (MarTech) platforms in a legal or marketing compliance context, including the use of AI-assisted review, research, and workflow tools to support legal operations, as well as familiarity with digital marketing platforms, content management systems, and digital asset management tools.
- Experience using a review and approval platform for marketing materials including managing review workflows, documenting approvals, and maintaining compliance records within the system.
- Demonstrated ability to identify advertising and marketing claims — including health, nutritional, wellness, environmental, comparative, ingredient, and performance claims — across both traditional and digital media formats, with an understanding of how claim substantiation requirements may differ in digital, social, and influencer-driven contexts.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with continuously evolving demands and competing priorities, demonstrating strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to adjust priorities in response to unanticipated events.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Working knowledge of digital marketing ecosystems, including social media platforms, programmatic advertising, e-commerce, email marketing, mobile marketing, and emerging digital channels such as retail media networks.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to perform tasks in a safe, effective, and quality manner.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to non-legal business partners.
- Flexibility and adaptability in dealing with changing situations, evolving business needs, and diverse stakeholders across the Marketing Function.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment, exercising initiative and sound judgment under attorney supervision.
