About the role

The Facilities Management Intern will assist the Department of Public Works in supporting the maintenance and operations of city-owned facilities. This role offers hands-on experience in facilities management, including exposure to building systems, maintenance planning, and sustainability initiatives. Work is performed under the supervision of the Facilities Manager. This internship complies with Department of Labor guidelines, ensuring that the primary benefit is to the intern, who will receive mentorship, skill development, and practical exposure to public sector facilities management. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision and mentorship of the Facilities Manager and team members, the intern will: · Assist in conducting facility inspections to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety standards. · Support the planning and scheduling of routine maintenance and repair activities. · Participate in sustainability initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. · Help maintain accurate records of facility operations, maintenance activities, and equipment inventories. · Collaborate with various departments to coordinate facility-related projects and events. · Attend relevant meetings (virtual or in-person) for exposure to strategic planning and interdepartmental collaboration.
