About the Role:

Reporting to the incoming Director of Alumnae Engagement and Giving, the Alumnae Associate is an essential member of the Development & Alumnae Relations team, overseeing aspects of Brearley’s Alumnae Relations program, which regularly communicates with 4,000+ active alums of all ages and is responsible for engaging and connecting our vibrant, diverse, and generous alum community.

The Alumnae Associate must be a proven and effective communicator who is able to nimbly interact with many alum volunteers. The successful candidate will be adept at leading meetings and running events, possess outstanding interpersonal skills, and have a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively. The Alumnae Associate must use discretion with confidential or sensitive information and have the capacity to manage several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment. We are seeking a team-player with an engaging personality, sound judgment, and a positive outlook.

We invite interested candidates to apply by completing an application and uploading a cover letter and resume at www.brearley.org/careers-at-brearley/.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide support for the Alumnae Board’s volunteer subcommittees, which organize alumnae panels, social gatherings, reunions, and networking events. This work includes arranging and attending planning meetings, as well as planning and staffing subcommittee alum events in the evenings.

  • Support opportunities for alumnae-student interaction and networking. Manage Alumnae Relations activities designed to engage current Upper School students, including internship opportunities with alumnae.

  • Support Brearley’s institutional goals of building a more equitable and antiracist community. This includes staffing the Alumnae Association’s defined diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism initiatives, as well as partnering with other stakeholders in communicating and extending the work being done with students, parents, and employees to the broader alumnae community, wherever possible.

  • Maintain and update alumnae engagement and news on the website.

  • Manage the collection and recording of Class Notes for the School’s bi-annual publication, the Brearley Bulletin.

  • Maintain the accuracy of Raiser's Edge database by regularly updating constituent records.

  • Interface regularly with other offices in the School (Business Office, Technology, Food Services, Facilities, Reception) for streamlined execution of alumnae events and development operations.

  • Support the Advancement Office as a whole with a focus on alumnae relations.

  • Other tasks as required and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

This position demands exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, strong organizational and planning capabilities, a proactive approach to anticipating and solving problems, as well as flexibility and the ability to interface well with many different personalities.

At least 3 years of experience in alumnae/customer relations, preferably in an academic setting, in a dynamic environment where the applicant routinely balanced and executed from a range of priorities. A bachelor’s degree is required along with excellent communication, writing and editing skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and merging Word documents. Expertise in volunteer management or customer service, experience fundraising, and knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database preferred. Occasional night and weekend work required, based around alum events.
