Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre is seeking two gallery assistants to help our Gallery Manager in The Central Art Gallery. We are looking for two friendly, welcoming and pro-active assistants to join our team. Each assistant's role is one day a week. The Gallery hours are 9.30am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Saturday so the actual day of work will be negotiated with the current Gallery Manager. Objectives and responsibilities · Be a welcoming, friendly face to all visitors at The Central. · Provide information to visitors as required – be a helpful presence. · Proactively encourage and process sales of artworks to visitors/clients. · Operate the Artlogic database under the Gallery Manager's supervision / instructions. · Open and close the gallery on each rostered day ensuring that high levels of security are maintained. · Assist the Gallery Manager as required: to deliver temporary exhibitions, specifically by assisting with installation as required. to maintain the permanent exhibition of smaller / lower value works for sale. to deliver events as required. with marketing, particularly by creating and posting social media content. · Maintain best practice in art handling and storage practices. · Develop and maintain a high standard of professional and technical knowledge relating to represented artists and their work, and the New Zealand art market more broadly. · General administration as required. · Assist the Gallery Manager to maintain ongoing relationships with artists and clients. · Maintain exemplary customer service standards. About you · Knowledge of New Zealand art history and/or the commercial art market or a related field is desirable. · Experience working in a customer/client-focused role. · Experience of sales. · An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori, or a willingness to develop this understanding. · Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite is desirable. · Commitment to maintaining exemplary customer service standards. · Knowledge of best practice standards in art handling and storage is desirable. · Experience in a sole-charge environment / working alone is desirable. · Competent using IT systems and digital technology. · Physically able to undertake tasks, e.g. art installation. · Flexibility and willingness to help and learn. · Trustworthy and reliable with initiative.
