About the role

Be part of something bigger. As a HR Officer – Detachment Commander, you are given significant responsibility from day 1. You'll command, lead and manage 18 highly motivated and bright soldiers in the delivery of personnel administration. Joining our Staff and Personnel Support (SPS) Branch, you'll deliver personnel administrative capability in support of the wider Army. You'll look after the physical and professional development of your detachment and assist senior leadership on personnel and security matters. No two days are the same, and you'll deploy around the world. Your training will be affiliated with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) and you'll have lots of opportunities to build professional qualifications and accreditation, such as a degree in HR Management or Business. Start the adventure of a lifetime. As an entry-level Officer, you'll start your career in a position of management, commanding responsibility for your team of soldiers. You don't need any experience to apply – through world-class training at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, you'll develop the transferrable leadership skills and qualifications you need to motivate and support your team. Outside the Royal Military Academy, you'll continue to learn and grow. Being an Officer is a global adventure, whether you're leading expeditions, running operations abroad, or delivering humanitarian aid to communities in need. During your training at Sandhurst, you'll be an Officer Cadet, earning £33,183 a year. As you progress through our ranks, this will rise to £50,540 for a Captain, and £63,387 when you become a Major. You'll also receive 38 days' annual leave every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations), free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, and free gym and sports facilities. And unless you're away on operations or training exercises, you'll normally work 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

About the company

The Army is the UK's largest apprenticeship provider with over 39 to pick from, ranging from engineering and trades to intelligence and medicine. If you want to build skills and earn civilian qualifications as a soldier, this is the route for you. If you want to learn to lead from the very best, you can become a Regular Officer and start your journey at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. You'll build confidence, learn survival skills, and train to guide your team through tough situations — anywhere in the world. You'll then take charge of a group of soldiers and begin specialist training in your chosen area - like engineering, intelligence, or even flying an Apache helicopter. If you have specialist skills, or want to learn them, you could join the Army as a Professionally Qualified Officer (PQO). There are roles in science, medicine, law and more, where the Army will pay for your civilian training (e.g. university) or offer a lump sum if you've already qualified. You'll then do a role in your field unlike any other in civilian life. Army life is full of exciting opportunities, wherever you join. You could be parachuting in the UK or diving overseas. You'll train around the world, earn a good salary, and enjoy great benefits – from housing and sports, to gaining qualifications and growing your career.
