About the role

As a Research Engineer on our team, you’ll have the unique opportunity to work on research problems that can improve the vision, and multimodal models, contribute to the development of completely open foundation models, and experiment with mobile robots in the real world. You will contribute to projects similar to our recent Molmo model release (https://molmo.allenai.org/). Our next hire will also help us build infrastructure one of the two: (1) the next generation of multimodal language models and digital agents or (2) simulation infrastructure for mobile robotics and real-world mobile robots. We’re looking for someone with experience working with open-source projects, deep knowledge of Python, and a strong understanding of modern deep learning, computer vision, and some natural language processing. We are looking for applicants interested in computer vision, natural language processing, machine learning, robotics, agents, and/or embodied AI. International candidates are welcome to apply. Pay is competitive, and visa sponsorship is available. We collaborate frequently with researchers and engineers on other Ai2 teams focused on natural language processing and HCI, among others. Our main office has close ties and unique access to researchers at the University of Washington, only 1.5 miles away. Engineers excited about such internal and external collaborations are encouraged to apply. Research Engineers in the PRIOR team will work on multiple exciting research projects in the above areas. They will also have the opportunity to contribute and engage in a variety of other activities critical to our research and mission. These include opportunities to lead select projects, author and present scientific papers and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and conferences, and collaborate with researchers at other organizations including universities. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Building infrastructure to facilitate the next generation of LLM research. Optimizing training and inference for language models. Developing infrastructure to deduplicate and analyze datasets at scale. Triaging between experiments and executing on the most impactful. Supporting and collaborating with an open-source community. Bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and a widely adopted product. Using software engineering best practices in a research environment. What You’ll Need: Knowledge of modern deep learning and natural language processing techniques. Strong software engineering skills, particularly around building performant systems and debugging. Experience with Python and PyTorch. Familiarity with software using container technologies (e.g. Docker) to deploy web-based services. Education/experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant engineering experience. A minimum of 2 years of software development experience.
