Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Systems Administrator to join our team in Austin, TX. As part of the Identity and Biometric Solutions team, this role contributes to the delivery and support of systems used by state and local government agencies for issuing official documents such as Driver’s Licenses and Identification Cards.
This position applies established technical practices to deploy, configure, and maintain systems and networks across cloud and on-premises environments. The role supports AWS and Azure infrastructure, virtual machines, and containerized applications, and contributes to Kubernetes-based environments. The Systems Administrator works both independently and collaboratively to troubleshoot issues, maintain system performance, and support ongoing operations.
The ideal candidate has a working knowledge of hybrid-cloud environments and experience supporting infrastructure components such as VMware, SAN storage, and physical hardware. This role follows defined processes and contributes to continuous improvement of system reliability, security, and performance.
Regulatory Compliance Requirements
Must have U.S. Citizenship to obtain the post-hire Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and must be able to obtain post-hire clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investments in the U.S. (CFIUS) and Department of Treasury.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Collaborate with project teams to support the delivery of technical solutions for government customers.
Deploy, configure, and maintain cloud and on-premises infrastructure using established tools and processes.
Support AWS and Azure environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
Troubleshoot system, network, and integration issues; escalate more complex issues as needed.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations and standard operating procedures.
Monitor system performance and availability using tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail; identify and address issues within defined scope.
Perform routine system maintenance, including patching, updates, and environment redeployment.
Support system security and compliance by following established policies and procedures.
Assist in implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions.
Provide technical support to users and internal teams, resolving issues within scope of responsibility.
Participate in knowledge sharing and support training efforts for team members.
Provide Tier 2/3 support for deployed systems, working with senior engineers on complex issues.
Communicate status, risks, and issues to project teams and management.
Travel to customer sites as needed to support implementations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5- years of relevant experience supporting cloud-based infrastructure (AWS and/or Azure).
Experience deploying and maintaining systems in cloud environments (IaaS, containers, Kubernetes exposure).
Working knowledge of networking and web protocols (HTTP/S, TCP/IP, DNS, REST APIs).
Hands-on experience with AWS networking components (e.g., VPCs, routing, security groups).
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation concepts.
Knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating systems.
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and follow structured problem-solving approaches.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with scripting (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) for basic automation.
Exposure to configuration management tools (Ansible, PowerShell DSC).
Familiarity with version control and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins).
Experience supporting distributed systems or applications.
Exposure to enterprise hardware (servers, storage).
Experience using monitoring/observability tools (Datadog, CloudWatch).
Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Associate, Azure Administrator) are a plus
