Position: Textile, Embroidery & Surface Development Designer
Location: Gurugram, Haryana
Industry: High Fashion / Premium Apparel Manufacturing & Export
We are looking for a highly creative, technically strong, and development-oriented Textile, Embroidery & Surface Development Designer to join our growing high-fashion team.
The ideal candidate should have strong exposure to textile development, embroidery and surface ornamentation, fashion trend research, silhouette understanding, material sourcing, and concept-to-product execution. We are looking for someone experimental, detail-oriented, fashion-forward, and passionate about creating innovative textiles and garments from scratch.
This role requires someone who can understand buyer aesthetics and fashion language, develop concepts accordingly, source the right materials, and take developments from idea stage to final product execution.
Key Responsibilities:
• Research global fashion, textile, embroidery, and surface development trends
• Create mood boards, concept stories, textile directions, color stories, and seasonal development ideas
• Understand buyer mood boards, references, trend directions, and aesthetics to translate them into commercially viable textile and garment developments
• Develop innovative fabrics, surface textures, embroidery concepts, embellishment techniques, washes, and material stories
• Work on high-fashion embroidery developments including adda work, hand embroidery, placement concepts, sequins, beadwork, threadwork, appliqué, textures, and mixed-media surfaces
• Experiment with fabrics, trims, techniques, and materials to create unique textile developments
• Source fabrics, trims, embellishments, yarns, laces, patches, accessories, and all development materials required for sampling and collection creation
• Coordinate with local and international vendors to arrange innovative materials and development inputs as per buyer requirements
• Create detailed artwork and development files using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
• Coordinate with embroidery units, karigars, textile vendors, dyeing units, printers, sampling teams, and production departments to execute developments
• Translate textile developments into garment concepts and silhouettes where required
• Participate in collection development and assist in creating complete product lines/capsule collections
• Work closely with merchandising, sourcing, sampling, and production teams to ensure development feasibility, costing alignment, and execution
• Maintain development libraries, swatches, references, and archives for ongoing and future collections
• Ensure developments are aligned with luxury/high-fashion buyer expectations, finishing standards, and production feasibility
• Independently drive developments from concept, sourcing, swatch creation, embroidery execution, sampling, and final garment stage
Required Skills & Experience:
• Strong experience in high-fashion, designer, couture, luxury, or export-oriented apparel/textile development
• Deep understanding of embroidery techniques, surface ornamentation, textile manipulation, garment aesthetics, and material development
• Strong fashion sense and understanding of global trends, colors, fabrics, silhouettes, detailing, and luxury finishes
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Illustrator
• Strong sketching, concept development, artwork creation, and visualization skills
• Strong sourcing capability and understanding of fabrics, trims, garment construction, embroidery, washes, dyeing, and surface techniques
• Experience working with embroidery vendors, artisans, sampling teams, sourcing teams, and development units
• Ability to understand buyer language and convert concepts into commercially relevant developments
• Experimental mindset with strong attention to detail, finishing, and innovation
• Ability to handle multiple developments in a fast-paced high-fashion environment
Preferred Candidate Profile:
• 5–10 years of relevant experience in high-fashion or premium apparel industry
• Background from designer labels, couture houses, export houses, luxury brands, or textile development studios preferred
• Strong portfolio showcasing textile development, embroidery concepts, surface experimentation, and finished garments
• Existing vendor and artisan network within embroidery/textile ecosystem is an added advantage
