Apprentice Shop Technician – Texas First Rentals

The Apprentice Shop Technician supports the maintenance and repair of rental equipment under the guidance of experienced technicians. This entry-level role focuses on learning diagnostic processes, safety protocols, and technical skills through structured training paths and hands-on experience. Responsibilities include assisting with inspections, performing basic repairs, and maintaining shop organization. Candidates should demonstrate mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and commitment to safety standards. This position offers a clear career path toward becoming a certified Shop Service Technician through progressive training and on-the-job development. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Assists in performing maintenance and repair of rental fleet
  • Assists with installation, repairs, maintenance, and replacement of mechanical and electrical components
  • Examine and test equipment, components, and parts to ensure proper functioning
  • Adjusts, connects, or disconnects wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts
  • Attends required classroom instructions by Pro-Tech and HDSI classes
  • Maintains safety training and procedures
  • Receives coaching, mentoring, and feedback from service leadership
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic and its applications 
  • Knowledge of computer software and hardware applications 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing 
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret information 
  • Ability to follow directions and guidelines 
  • Ability to receive coaching, mentoring, and feedback from Service Leadership 
  • Ability to learn many different types of repair procedures on a variety of mechanical equipment 
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing 
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences 

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • None 

Travel: 

  • Very limited travel and overnight stays are expected for this position
