What To Expect
Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start May 2025 and continue through the entire Summer term (i.e. through August/September 2025) or into Fall 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About The Team
Do you want to work on Tesla's IoT platforms that support Powerwall, Megapack, Solar Roof, Supercharger, Autobidder, and Virtual Power Plants? Do you want to work with functional programming, streaming data, and distributed systems? Do you want to work with Scala, Akka, Reactive Streams, InfluxDB, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes?

Tesla is looking for software engineering interns to build the cloud services that power these products, driving the worldwide transition to sustainable energy. These platforms provide real-time monitoring, optimization, and control of distributed, renewable-energy assets, including generation, storage, grid services, and electric vehicle charging. You must enjoy thinking in systems and working on challenges related to the availability, reliability, scalability, and security of distributed software systems.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, enhance and debug new and existing real-time software in C/C++ in embedded RTOS environment
  • Own implementation of software/firmware features end to end
  • Work with HW and system teams on building testing infrastructure
  • Help design and bring up state of the art HIL/SIL validation infrastructure
  • Help implement software tests for HIL/SIL infrastructure
  • Assist in tool development for testing and system integration


  • What You'll Bring

  • Pursuing bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or proof of exceptional skills in related fields, with practical experience
  • Desired to have good electrical and electronics fundamentals to be able to understand schematics and debug simple circuits
  • Desired to have test driven development mindset
  • Remain engaged, proactive and positive while solving very challenging problems
  • Own assignments and take full accountability for overall team success
  • Desired to have strong understanding of Python
  • Capable of delivering top quality C/ C++ code for embedded systems

  • Expected Compensation

    $20.00 - $50.00/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
