About the role

What To Expect
As a Homologation Engineer for Middle East Asia & Africa, you will work to ensure our vehicles meet and exceed regional regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for vehicle/assembly/component level homologation approval for vehicles across Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Israel and Qatar, working out of UNECE/FMVSS-based compliance frameworks, along with other import-related obligations such as audits for GCC standards and other country-specific requirements.

This role requires technical skill and regulatory know-how for both current and upcoming regulations while working in cross-functional teams. You will collaborate between Design, Engineering, Programs, Production, Legal, Policy, and local registrations teams, engaging directly or indirectly with regulators, standards bodies, and industry coalitions. Key focus is the ability to single-handedly manage and coordinate full homologation scope for getting approvals in KSA, UAE, MO, IL and QA.

What You'll Do

  • Lead end-to-end homologation and compliance programs (from preparation, documentation, requirement development, testing, tracing, verification, audits, certifications, and post-approval changes) for light vehicles in commercial operations across Saudi Arabia, UAE, Morocco, Israel, and Qatar, incorporating UNECE/FMVSS, GCC standards, and local import obligations.
  • Own direct interactions with regulatory authorities in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Morocco, Israel, and Qatar, managing submissions, approvals, and compliance activities via online portals.
  • Communicate clear timelines and updates to sales and factory teams to support import planning, production scheduling, and operational activities.
  • Collaborate with Europe Homologation team to plan/execute testing, evaluate processes/results for accuracy and compliance, and sign off for MEA region standards
  • Monitor, interpret, and anticipate changes in UNECE, GCC, and country-specific regulatory frameworks (including import audits/obligations) for Saudi Arabia, UAE, Morocco, Israel, and Qatar to inform design, execution, and compliance decisions.
  • Support internal/external audits and investigations; implement corrective actions, ongoing enhancements; construct/maintain compliance reporting and archive systems as a single source of truth for regulatory evidence.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Legal, Policy teams to embed safety/compliance in product lifecycle/deployment; serve as Tesla's MEA subject matter expert and external representative with regulators/standards bodies to shape light vehicle safety standards.


  • What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years’ experience with compliance, regulatory, or systems engineering positions, with proven knowledge of effective homologation initiatives for light vehicles and the ability to manage programs independently.
  • Hands-on understanding of automotive and light vehicle regulatory codes and standards, including UNECE, FMVSS, GCC, and country-specific requirements for Saudi Arabia, UAE, Morocco, Israel, and Qatar, with focus on navigating import-related obligations such as audits.
  • Deep experience in homologation, type approval, and certification of light vehicles in Middle Eastern markets, including UNECE/FMVSS-based processes and GCC compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience with non-functional requirements, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning on a multi-jurisdictional basis.
  • Strong communicator; capable of explaining complex regulatory principles to engineers, attorneys, executives, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated impact with cross-functional stakeholders and externally for the company as the delegate to regulators, standards bodies, or coalitions.
