The role
India's BESS tender pipeline is moving from gigawatt-hour announcements to live awards across the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), state distribution companies (DISCOMs), and transmission utilities. We're hiring a Tender Evaluation Lead to own the full tender-to-bid lifecycle: reading the Request for Proposal (RFP), decoding what it actually asks for, structuring our response, pricing the bid, and getting it submitted clean.
This is a high-visibility seat. You will report directly to the top management and shape what Hanum bids on for the next several years.
What you will do
- Track every live and upcoming BESS tender across SECI, NTPC, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), state DISCOMs, transmission utilities, and Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) procurement portals
- Read each RFP and Request for Quotation (RFQ) in full; produce a one-page go/no-go memo covering eligibility, technical fit, commercial attractiveness, and risk
- Decode tender structures: capacity payments (₹ lakh/MW/month), bundled Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) tariffs, Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) terms, Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charge waivers, Domestic Value Addition (DVA) thresholds, Liquidated Damages (LDs), and Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) requirements
- Build the bid financial model — capex per MWh, augmentation schedule, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) costs, lifecycle cost, and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) sensitivities
- Coordinate inputs from engineering, supply chain, and finance; assemble compliant techno-commercial bids
- Own the tender calendar — submission deadlines, Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) and PBG arrangements, pre-bid query windows, clarifications
- Map competitor positioning and winning tariffs across awarded tenders
- Build relationships with developers, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contractors where Hanum participates as a supply partner rather than a direct bidder
You Should Have
- 4–6 years on BESS, solar, wind, or thermal power tenders in India
- Hands-on experience with at least one major procuring agency (SECI, NTPC, the Power Finance Corporation (PFC), or a major state DISCOM)
- Sharp financial modelling — comfortable building and stress-testing capex and IRR models in Excel from scratch
- Working knowledge of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) regulations, the ISTS framework, the Energy Storage Obligation (ESO), and BESPA structures
- Engineering background (electrical or power preferred); an MBA is a plus
- The ability to read a 200-page RFP and pull out what matters in a one-pager
Nice to Have
- Prior experience submitting (not just tracking) bids to SECI, NTPC, or state utilities
- Existing network with developers, IPPs, or EPC contractors active in storage
- Exposure to international BESS markets
