Job Description - Telephony Engineer

Qualifications preferred:
● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Electronics & Communication or a related field.
● Experience in designing and managing large-scale VoIP, SIP or telephony platforms in production environments.
● Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) or distributed systems is a plus.
● Exposure to AI-powered voice solutions, IVR systems or high-volume outbound calling platforms is preferred.
About the Role:

We're looking for a Telephony Engineer to build, optimize and scale the systems that power our voice communication platform. You'll work on high-volume telephony solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams and ensure our calling infrastructure delivers exceptional performance, reliability and scalability.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Build & Scale:
● Design, build and optimize telephony systems that power high-volume voice communications.
● Develop scalable voice solutions that deliver reliable, low-latency and high-quality calling experiences.
● Continuously enhance system performance, scalability and availability to support growing business needs.
Integrate & Deliver:
● Build and integrate voice services with internal platforms, APIs and business applications.
● Develop and enhance calling features such as inbound, outbound, click-to-call, conferencing and IVR solutions.
● Ensure seamless deployment and operation of new telephony features across production environments.
Monitor & Optimize:
● Monitor system health, troubleshoot call quality issues including jitter, latency, packet loss, codec negotiation and NAT traversal and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks.
● Identify risks early and implement improvements that enhance reliability, security and operational efficiency.
● Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams and operational runbooks.
Collaborate & Innovate:
● Work closely with Product, Backend, DevOps and Infrastructure teams to deliver robust voice solutions.
● Stay up to date with emerging telephony technologies and industry best practices.
● Contribute ideas and innovations that improve the scalability, resilience and user experience of our voice platform.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
Experience & Skills:
● 3+ years of experience in Telephony Engineering, VoIP or a similar role.
● Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex telephony systems.
● Experience building, deploying and maintaining scalable voice communication platforms.
● Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Knowledge:
● Strong expertise in Asterisk, SIP protocols, WebRTC and VoIP technologies.
● Hands-on experience with Linux, shell scripting, networking fundamentals (RTP, UDP, audio codecs such as G.711 and Opus), APIs and telephony integrations.
● Familiarity with cloud platforms, distributed systems, load balancing, failover, horizontal scaling and monitoring tools for high-availability deployments.
● Understanding of telephony security (including SIP TLS and SRTP), call routing, audio codecs, Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and performance optimization.
● Experience with call recording, transcription pipelines and telephony fraud prevention is preferred.
