Job Location: Delhi
Job Type: Full Time - In Office
Minimum Experience Required - 5+ years in a Senior or Lead Position
About the Role
We are looking for a Technology Lead / Solutions Architect to own the technical direction of this project. This is the lead technical role within the project team, responsible for defining how the platform is built, integrated, and delivered across its key workstreams: Analytics (BI & ETL), AI/ML, App Development, Data Platform, DevOps, and Infrastructure.
You will work alongside the project manager and delivery leadership, providing the technical advisory input they need to make good resourcing and planning decisions, defining what roles are needed, what skills each role requires, and whether candidates are technically suitable. The project manager owns the hiring process and resourcing timeline; you own the technical judgment that informs it.
You are not expected to be a hands-on expert in every tool. The project has dedicated senior engineers for App Dev, Datalake, ETL, BI, and Infrastructure. Your role is to connect the dots, set the standards, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks between teams. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on expertise in at least 2 of the 4 platform domains, with sufficient working knowledge of the others to govern design and identify risks.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Direction & Standards
- Define the overall solution architecture for the project, covering all platform layers: App ↔ ETL ↔ Datalake ↔ BI ↔ ML ↔ Infra
- Establish and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), integration contracts, and technical standards across all project teams
- Ensure all teams are building to a consistent architecture — no conflicting assumptions, no unresolved integration gaps
- Identify and manage technical risks, dependencies, and debt throughout the project lifecycle
Technical Resourcing Advisory
- Advise the project manager on the technical roles required to deliver the project — defining what each role needs to own, the skill depth required, and the appropriate seniority level
- Identify skill gaps in the current team and recommend resourcing actions to the PM — whether a gap needs a new hire, a contractor, or upskilling of an existing team member
- Define technical skill criteria and job requirements for all engineering roles on the project; review and validate JDs before they go to market
- Review CVs for technical roles and assess whether candidates meet the project's technical requirements
- Conduct or co-lead technical interviews; provide a clear hire/no-hire recommendation with technical rationale to the project manager
Project-Level Technical Governance
- Lead technical design reviews and sign-offs at project milestones
- Resolve cross-team technical blockers and integration issues
- Review and approve architecture outputs from domain leads before implementation
- Maintain the project's technical roadmap, aligned to delivery timelines and business goals
Stakeholder & Team Interface
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the project sponsor, client, and senior stakeholders
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and communicate technical decisions in plain language
- Support the project manager with technical input for planning, scoping, and risk decisions
- Mentor and guide senior engineers on the project; facilitate knowledge-sharing across teams
Domain Ownership (deep expertise in 2 of 4)
- Application Development: Define Django REST backend and Angular SPA architecture; govern API contracts between application and analytics/datalake layers
- Datalake & Data Platform: Define datalake zone design (Bronze/Silver/Gold), storage topology (PostgreSQL + MinIO/Ceph), ingestion patterns, and data quality standards
- BI & ETL: Define Qlik Sense architecture (QVD layer, semantic model), Talend pipeline standards, and data delivery patterns
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Define OpenStack private cloud design, Kubernetes deployment patterns, and GitLab CI/CD pipeline standards
Core Skillsets
Deep Expertise — 2 of the following 4 domains
- Application Dev: Django, Django REST Framework, Angular, TypeScript, REST API design, PostgreSQL ORM, Git, Docker
- Datalake & Data Platform: Medallion zone design (Bronze/Silver/Gold), PostgreSQL (schema, partitioning, HA/DR), MinIO, Ceph, data ingestion, data quality
- BI & ETL: Qlik Sense architecture, QVD/QVW layer design, Set Analysis, Talend Studio, ETL/ELT pipeline design, CDC patterns
- Cloud & Infrastructure: OpenStack (Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Keystone), Kubernetes, Helm, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Ansible
Working Knowledge — All 4 domains
- Able to review, question, and approve architecture decisions across App Dev, Datalake, BI/ETL, and Infrastructure
- Able to identify integration risks and design gaps across layer boundaries without being the hands-on implementer
- Comfortable producing and reviewing ADRs, integration specs, and solution design documents
Technical Hiring Advisory
- Able to define skill criteria and seniority requirements for engineering roles based on project architecture needs
- Experienced in reviewing technical CVs and assessing candidate suitability across multiple engineering domains
- Able to structure and conduct technical interviews and articulate a clear recommendation to non-technical stakeholders
Cross-cutting Skills
- Solution architecture principles and documentation (TOGAF awareness is a plus, not a requirement)
- MLflow, Kubeflow — sufficient awareness to govern ML pipeline integration with the datalake
- Prometheus, Grafana — platform observability awareness
- Technical communication, stakeholder management, and project-level technical planning
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or infrastructure, with at least 2 years in a technical lead, architect, or senior design role
- Demonstrated deep expertise in at least 2 of the 4 platform domains: App Dev, Datalake & Data Platform, BI & ETL, or Cloud Infrastructure
- Proven working knowledge across all 4 domains — sufficient to govern design and spot risks beyond your primary specialism
- Experience providing technical advisory input on team composition — defining what roles are needed and what skills they require
- Experience participating in technical hiring: defining criteria, reviewing CVs, and conducting technical interviews
- Experience defining ADRs, integration contracts, or technical standards in a multi-team delivery context
- Comfortable acting as the technical point of contact for non-technical stakeholders and project leadership
- Strong written communication for architecture documentation and technical decision records
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience advising on technical team composition for a data platform or analytics project
- Experience in on-premise or air-gapped private cloud environments (OpenStack, Kubernetes)
- Exposure to data governance, data cataloguing, or metadata management practices
- Familiarity with GenAI, RAG pipelines, or LLM-based integration patterns
- TOGAF, cloud architect certification, PRINCE2/PMP, or equivalent — useful but not required
Candidate Profile Note
This role is designed for a senior engineer who has grown into a leadership and design mindset. You should be close enough to the tools to have credible conversations with the engineers you are leading, but your primary contribution is ensuring the project is being built the right way and that the right people are in the right roles. You advise on resourcing — the project manager executes it. Candidates with 5–8 years of experience who have led technical delivery on a complex, multi-team project and have been involved in defining roles..
