About The Role
The Technical Writer III at Generac plays a pivotal role in creating comprehensive, accurate, and user-friendly technical documentation for a wide range of products and processes. This position involves collaborating closely with engineering, service, and product development teams to gather and interpret technical information, translating complex technical data into clear manuals, bulletins, and instructional materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing within industrial or similar sectors, with a focus on producing high-quality documentation that supports product launches and ongoing service needs. As a senior member of the technical writing team, this role also includes mentorship responsibilities, guiding junior writers to ensure consistency and excellence across all documentation outputs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, Technical Writing, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience, preferably within industrial or manufacturing environments.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with industrial products or similar complex equipment.
- Proficiency in using Arbortext Styler for XML-based documentation.
- Experience with Adobe Suite, FrameMaker, and related documentation tools.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude to understand and interpret technical specifications and schematics.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Research, write, edit, and publish technical documentation including owner’s manuals, installation guides, service manuals, and technical bulletins for all product lines.
- Develop and maintain technical and parts manuals, ensuring accuracy and clarity in a timely manner.
- Create documentation that adheres to style guides and meets user expectations, balancing technical precision with accessibility.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as engineering, service, and product management to gather comprehensive product information.
- Review and update existing publications by gathering information from various company resources and industry standards.
- Participate actively in the New Product Introduction process to ensure all relevant technical documentation is prepared and available at product launch.
- Contribute to the design and development of style sheets and templates for various technical document types.
- Provide mentorship and training to Technical Writer I & II team members, fostering professional growth and consistency in documentation quality.
- Ensure all documentation complies with company standards, industry regulations, and best practices.
