Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead and coordinate enterprise level storage migration initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background working alongside infrastructure teams especially those responsible for SAN, NAS, VMware, and server platforms and will be highly skilled in project scheduling, resource coordination, risk management, and change control. This role is responsible for driving large volumes of migrations with a focus on precision, quality, and zero defect execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and migration waves for large scale storage transition programs.
- Define scope, deliverables, milestones, dependencies, and resource requirements.
- Coordinate with SAN, storage, VMware, server, and application teams to align execution plans across all technical domains.
Storage Migration Coordination
- Lead end to end orchestration of storage migrations, including:
- LUN moves
- Array-to-array migrations (e.g., PowerMax, VMAX, Pure, NetApp, etc.)
- Host cutovers
- Application or VM level transitions
- Ensure all teams (storage, network, compute, backup, application) are synchronized for each migration event.
- Maintain realtime tracking during execution windows to ensure accuracy and adherence to timelines.
Change Control & Governance
- Prepare and submit change requests (CRQs) with complete technical and procedural details.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure appropriate mitigations and backout plans are documented.
- Lead change review meetings and represent migration activities in CAB/ECAB forums.
- Ensure all change policies, approvals, and compliance requirements are met.
Resource & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate staffing and coverage for migration windows, including after-hours and weekend events.
- Collaborate with technical leads to ensure engineering resources are available and prepared.
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, vendors, and leadership teams.
- Communicate project status, risks, and progress clearly and consistently.
Quality Assurance & ZeroDefect Execution
- Establish and enforce strong quality controls to guarantee successful migrations without data loss, outages, or defects.
- Develop standardized migration runbooks, precheck/postcheck procedures, and validation plans.
- Conduct post migration audits to confirm health, performance, and compliance with expected outcomes.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities across execution, tooling, and process methodology.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation including dashboards, progress reports, status updates, RAID logs, and migration reports.
- Deliver executivelevel summaries highlighting achievements, upcoming work, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Track KPIs, velocity, and success rates for iterative improvement of migration cycles.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Technical Project Manager, Program Manager, or Infrastructure Project Lead.
- Proven experience managing large-scale storage migrations or datacenter modernization initiatives.
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure technologies (SAN, NAS, VMware, Linux/Windows servers, Fibre Channel networks, etc.).
- Demonstrated success coordinating high volume migration waves with zero defect expectations.
- Experience managing complex change control processes in enterprise environments.
- Exceptional organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills across technical and executive audiences.
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Smart sheet, Jira, ServiceNow Change Management, etc.).
Qualifications
- PMP, PMIACP, or Scrum certification.
- Background working with storage technologies such as EMC PowerMax, SRDF, NDM, VMAX, Pure, NetApp, or similar.
- Experience with ITIL frameworks, especially change control and incident management.
- Familiarity with migration methodologies such as wave planning, phased cutovers, and parallel run strategies.
- Experience in environments with stringent compliance or high availability requirements.
