Technical Product Manager
EXL Digital is seeking an experienced Technical Product Manager with 8+ years of experience to drive the product strategy, roadmap, and execution for enterprise applications and platforms. In this role, you'll bridge business stakeholders and engineering teams - translating customer needs into well-defined technical requirements, prioritizing the backlog, and partnering with engineering leadership to ship high-impact features. The ideal candidate combines strong product instincts with deep technical fluency.
Description
EXL Digital is looking for an experienced Technical Product Manager to join our team. At EXL, we believe there is always a better way. We look deeper, we find it, and we make it happen. We've built a culture founded on core values of innovation, collaboration, excellence, integrity, and respect.
In this role, you will own the product strategy, roadmap, and execution for a technical product area - likely involving APIs, platforms, integrations, data services, or developer-facing capabilities. You'll partner with engineering, architecture, design, business stakeholders, and clients to identify the right problems to solve, define clear requirements, prioritize the backlog, and drive features from concept to launch. You'll bring strong product judgment, technical fluency, and a customer-obsessed mindset.
Responsibilities
As a Technical Product Manager, you will:
- Own and drive the product roadmap for your area - balancing customer needs, business priorities, technical health, and strategic bets.
- Engage directly with customers, stakeholders, and business teams to deeply understand pain points, workflows, and opportunities.
- Translate business problems into clear, well-scoped product requirements - including user stories, acceptance criteria, API contracts, and success metrics.
- Partner closely with engineering, architecture, and design to evaluate technical approaches, trade-offs, and feasibility.
- Prioritize and groom the backlog; ensure the engineering team always has a clear, well-defined "next" set of work.
- Lead sprint planning, backlog reviews, demos, and stakeholder reviews in partnership with the EM/Tech Lead.
- Define and track product success metrics - adoption, usage, performance, reliability, and business outcomes.
- Run discovery activities - customer interviews, usability sessions, competitive analysis, and data analysis - to inform product decisions.
- Drive go-to-market readiness in partnership with marketing, sales, and customer success - including positioning, documentation, training, and rollout plans.
- Make trade-off decisions on scope, time, quality, and technical debt; communicate clearly when priorities shift.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate roadmap, progress, risks, and changes clearly and proactively.
- Partner with architecture and engineering on technical strategy - including platform investments, API design, integration patterns, and developer experience.
- Stay current with industry trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies relevant to your product area.
- Champion the voice of the customer inside the engineering organization.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of total experience, with at least 4+ years in a product management role - preferably for technical products, platforms, APIs, or developer-facing capabilities.
- Strong technical background - prior experience as an engineer, solution architect, or technical consultant is highly preferred.
- Ability to read code at a basic level, understand system architecture diagrams, and engage deeply with engineers on technical trade-offs.
- Strong understanding of modern software development practices - APIs, microservices, cloud (AWS preferred), CI/CD, and Agile/SCRUM.
- Experience defining and shipping technical products end-to-end — from discovery through launch and iteration.
- Proven ability to write clear, well-structured product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Strong analytical skills - comfortable using data, metrics, and SQL/BI tools to inform decisions.
- Excellent stakeholder management - able to align engineering, business, design, and leadership around a shared roadmap.
- Strong customer empathy and discovery skills - comfortable running interviews and translating insights into product direction.
- Experience working with distributed teams across multiple geographies.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal; able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and vice versa.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Figma, and analytics platforms (e.g., Mixpanel, Amplitude, Tableau).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
