Role Overview
We are looking for a Technical Manager to lead a team of backend engineers building and modernizing the core ProHance platform. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management — you will architect scalable backend systems in Java and Spring Boot, drive the modernization of our tech stack, and raise the engineering quality bar across the team, while mentoring engineers and owning delivery outcomes.
This is a high-ownership role for someone who can balance deep technical credibility with the people leadership needed to build and grow a strong backend engineering team.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Mentorship
• Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers in Java and related technologies.
• Drive hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the backend engineering team.
• Build a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous learning.
Architecture & Backend Engineering
• Architect scalable and maintainable backend solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices.
• Apply strong fundamentals in Core Java (OOPs, Collections, Design Patterns, Multithreading), JDBC, and MyBatis to guide design decisions and code reviews.
• Oversee development across the Spring Framework, REST APIs, and front-end-adjacent technologies (HTML, jQuery, AJAX, JavaScript, CSS) where backend and UI integration is required.
• Ensure performance, security, scalability, and maintainability of the product across all backend services.
Tech Stack Modernization
• Define and drive the roadmap for modernizing legacy components of the tech stack — including framework upgrades, architecture refactoring, and adoption of modern engineering practices.
• Identify technical debt and prioritize remediation alongside feature delivery.
• Evaluate and introduce modern tools, frameworks, and patterns (microservices, CI/CD, containerization) to improve velocity and system resilience.
• Drive adoption of DevOps practices to improve deployment frequency, reliability, and operational visibility.
Quality & Engineering Practices
• Champion a strong quality culture — code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and performance benchmarking.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and design review processes across the team.
• Partner with QA to reduce production defects and improve release reliability.
Cross-functional Collaboration
• Work closely with Product Management to translate requirements into technical designs and delivery plans.
• Partner with Engineering peers and the Product Council to align on architecture decisions and module ownership.
• Communicate technical trade-offs, risks, and timelines clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
Required Qualifications
• 8–12 years of backend software engineering experience, with proven experience leading a team.
• Strong expertise in Core Java (OOPs, Collections, Design Patterns, Threads), JDBC, and MyBatis.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, REST API design, and microservices architecture.
• Working knowledge of front-end-adjacent web technologies: HTML, jQuery, AJAX, JavaScript, and CSS.
• Demonstrated experience driving tech stack modernization or large-scale refactoring initiatives.
• Strong understanding of performance tuning, security best practices, and scalable system design.
• Exposure to DevOps practices and tooling for CI/CD and deployment automation.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and growing technical talent.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and modern DevOps pipelines.
• Exposure to SaaS product environments and enterprise-scale systems.
• Experience operating within a structured engineering governance model (e.g., architecture review boards, triad ownership models).
