About the Role:
Zoomie Games is seeking a highly skilled Level Designer with an exceptional artistic eye and a deep understanding of performance optimization to help bring an unannounced action-RPG to life. In this role, you will be responsible for crafting compelling, large-scale open zones from initial graybox to final polish. You will bridge the gap between creative vision and technical reality, ensuring our environments are not only breathtaking and ripe for exploration but also run seamlessly in Unreal Engine 5.
We are looking for a designer who understands how to guide a player's journey through environmental storytelling, intelligent landmark placement, and natural pacing, all while maintaining rigorous performance budgets.

- Zone Architecture: Design, build, and iterate on large-scale open zones, focusing on seamless traversal, engaging encounters, and organic d

- l Composition: Utilize an exceptional artistic eye to create stunning vistas, memorable landmarks, and immersive micro-environments that tell a story without words.Colla
- borative Iteration: Work tightly with Concept Artists, Environment Artists, and Gameplay Engineers to ensure levels support core combat mechanics, AI behaviors, and narrative pacing.Ecolo
- gy & Spacing: Carefully plot out the distribution of resources, hazards, and enemy encounter zones to create a living, breathing ecosystem that rewards player exploration.World
- Management: Expertly use World Partition and Data Layers for intelligent open-zone streaming, and generate HLODs for performant, sweeping vistas.Terra
- in & Surfaces: Seamlessly blend environments and apply micro-detailing utilizing RVT, POM / SPOM, and Nanite Displacement.Rende
- ring & Lighting: Manage Nanite geometry budgets and balance heavy dynamic lighting (Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps (VSM)) in outdoor zones with highly optimized Baked Lighting for performance-heavy interiors.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: 2+ years of level design experience in the gaming industry, with at least one shipped title featuring open-world or open-zone envi
ronments.Engin- e Mastery: Deep, hands-on proficiency with Unreal Engine 5, specifically with landscape tools, foliage systems, and the technical rendering features listed above.Techn
- ical Pipeline: Strong understanding of optimization workflows. You should know how to profile a scene, identify bottlenecks (draw calls, memory spikes), and fix them.Desig
- n Fundamentals: A masterful understanding of spatial design, player psychology, leading lines, and pacing.Portf
- olio: A strong portfolio demonstrating complex level layouts, graybox block-outs, and visually striking finished environments.
Bonus Points:
- Experience designing for seamless transitions between different modes of gameplay and traversal speeds.
- A background or strong foundation in traditional architecture, landscape design, or cinematography.
- Experience with technical art or scripting (Blueprints) in Unreal Engine.
