Job Title : Technical Lead
Role summary
Lead end-to-end technical delivery, owning architecture, implementation, quality and delivery for fleet- and vessel-level solutions. Combine maritime domain awareness with hands-on full‑stack engineering leadership across React, Python, AWS, Snowflake and Kafka to deliver
Key responsibilities
- Architecture & technical ownership: Define and evolve platform architecture (frontend, backend, data pipelines, model hosting, edge/ship gateway patterns, CI/CD).
- Hands-on delivery: Lead development of React front-end, Python services, streaming and batch data pipelines, and Snowflake analytics; deploy and operate on AWS.
- Telemetry ingestion & data engineering: Design robust ingestion, transformation and storage patterns; ensure schema, units, timestamps and provenance are correct.
- Real-time processing: Implement and optimise Kafka-based streaming for near-real-time alerts, model feeds and event-driven workflows.
- Model operationalisation: Collaborate with SMEs and data scientists to productionise physics and ML models (serving, versioning, monitoring, drift detection).
- Frontend UX & visualization: Guide React UI development for dashboards, interactive visualisations and operator workflows; ensure performance and responsiveness.
- Data platform & analytics: Design Snowflake schemas, secure access patterns, materialized views and analytics jobs for KPIs and historical analysis.
- Reliability & security: Implement observability, alerting, retries, backpressure handling, encryption, secrets management and RBAC.
- Testing & quality: Enforce automated testing (unit, integration, contract, E2E); manage staging, canary releases and production smoke checks.
- Team leadership: Lead, mentor and grow frontend, backend and data engineers; run code and design reviews and promote best practices.
- Stakeholder collaboration: Translate domain requirements into technical acceptance criteria and coordinate with Product, SMEs, DevOps and QA.
- Delivery & planning: Drive sprint planning, roadmaps, release gates and balance technical debt with feature velocity.
Required qualifications
- 9+ years software engineering experience with at least 3 years in technical leadership roles delivering complex cloud-native systems.
- Strong React expertise (component design, state management, testing, performance).
- Proficient in Python for backend and model integration (FastAPI/Flask); experience with containerised deployments.
- Hands-on AWS experience (EKS/Lambda/EC2/S3/IAM/CloudWatch or equivalents).
- Practical/understanding experience with Kafka (topics, partitions, consumer groups) and building streaming pipelines.
- Strong Snowflake or data-warehouse experience (schema design, performance tuning).(preferred)
- Deep understanding of time-series processing, ETL/ELT patterns and telemetry semantics.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation) and observability stacks.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to translate domain needs into technical deliverables.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
Preferred skills
- Experience in maritime, shipping, offshore or industrial IIoT/digital twin projects.
- Familiarity with time-series databases (InfluxDB/Timescale), model-serving platforms (SageMaker/Triton), and stream processors (Flink/Kafka Streams).
- Knowledge of naval concepts and common ship telemetry (shaft torque, speed logs, draft, IMU).
- Experience with Snowflake features like Snowpipe, tasks, streams and row-access policies.
- Security/compliance knowledge relevant to maritime or critical infrastructure.
