- Administer enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam, Rubrik, Dell Networker). Define and enforce backup policies, schedules, and retention rules.
- Optimize storage costs and lifecycle policies. Serve as an L3 escalation point for incidents and problems. Perform RCA for major incidents and provide permanent fixes. Create and update SOPs, knowledge base documents & technical designs.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting for backup failures and restore requests.
- Manage tape libraries, dedupe appliances (e.g.,Data Domain), backup proxies, and media servers.
- Plan and execute microcode/firmware upgrades, code compatibility checks with hosts & HBAs, rollback plans. Implement replication (Sync/Async, SRDF/S, SnapMirror/SnapVault, RecoverPoint) and participate in DR design and failover testing.
- Support DR drills, failover failback processes, and data recovery scenarios.
- Manage cloud storage platforms (Azure Blob, AWS S3, EFS/EBS, Google Cloud Storage).
- Implement cloud based backup and archival solutions. Support hybrid storage and cloud tiering strategies.
- Automate recurring tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Ansible. Work closely with vendors for escalations, licensing, and patch management.
- Administer enterprise arrays (e.g., Dell EMC/PowerStore/Unity/VNX, NetApp ONTAP, HPE 3PAR/Primera/Nimble, Pure), including LUN/NFS/SMB provisioning, thin/thick, snapshots, clones, and qtrees/quotas.
