Tech Lead / Solution Architect – Enterprise Platforms

About the Role
SustainEdge Consulting is looking for a strong Tech Lead / Solution Architect to lead the development of enterprise-grade web and mobile platforms across industries including retail, education, facilities management, and operations technology.
The immediate priority is to lead a large European retail platform development initiative involving POS, store operations, inventory, customer management, integrations, reporting, and multi-country business rules. Over time, this role is expected to become a long-term technical anchor for SustainEdge Consulting across multiple products and client engagements.
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, technically mature, delivery-focused, and comfortable working across technologies. While strong backend and full-stack experience is important, we value engineering judgement, architecture thinking, problem-solving ability, and adaptability more than rigid technology labels.
The ideal candidate should also be highly comfortable with AI-led software development — using modern AI tools to accelerate coding, architecture exploration, debugging, documentation, test generation, refactoring, and developer productivity.
What You Will Own
Technical Leadership
You will take end-to-end technical ownership of enterprise platforms, from architecture to delivery. This includes defining solution architecture, technical standards, coding practices, API design, database design, security approach, deployment practices, and overall engineering quality.
You will be expected to make sound technical decisions, challenge weak designs, simplify complexity, and ensure that the platform is scalable, maintainable, secure, and commercially practical.
Platform Development
You will guide and contribute to the development of large-scale business applications involving backend services, frontend applications, mobile interfaces, integrations, workflow logic, dashboards, and reporting.
You should be comfortable reviewing and improving existing codebases as well as building new systems from the ground up.
AI-Led Development
You should be a strong practitioner of AI-assisted development, not just someone who has casually used ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot.
We expect you to use AI tools intelligently for:
- Faster prototyping and coding
- Code review and refactoring
- Test case generation
- Debugging and root-cause analysis
- API and database design assistance
- Technical documentation
- Architecture comparison and decision support
- Developer productivity improvement
You should also know where AI helps, where it can mislead, and how to maintain engineering quality despite faster development cycles.
Delivery Ownership
You will work closely with product, business, QA, and client-facing teams to convert requirements into technical tasks, sprint plans, estimates, and release milestones.
You will be expected to identify risks early, manage dependencies, unblock developers, support QA, and ensure predictable delivery.
Team Mentorship
You will lead and mentor a small to mid-sized development team. This includes reviewing code, guiding developers, improving engineering discipline, strengthening documentation, and raising the overall technical maturity of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and development of enterprise web and mobile applications
- Own technical design for backend, frontend, database, integrations, and deployment
- Translate business requirements into clean technical solutions
- Review code and enforce strong engineering standards
- Guide developers across backend, frontend, mobile, and QA streams
- Drive sprint planning, technical estimation, and delivery discipline
- Improve code quality, maintainability, performance, and security
- Evaluate technology choices based on business fit, scalability, cost, and maintainability
- Use AI development tools to improve speed, quality, documentation, testing, and delivery
- Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues
- Work closely with stakeholders and provide clear technical updates
- Build reusable patterns, frameworks, and engineering practices for long-term use
Required Experience
- 10–12 years of experience in software development
- Strong experience building enterprise-grade web applications
- Strong backend engineering experience in one or more modern stacks such as:
- .NET / C# / ASP.NET Core
- Java / Spring Boot
- Node.js / TypeScript
- Python-based backend frameworks
- Strong database design experience with SQL databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
- Good understanding of frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or similar
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs
- Experience with authentication, authorization, security, logging, and auditability
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, cloud deployment, and DevOps workflows
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills
- Experience leading developers and owning technical delivery
- Strong understanding of scalable architecture, modular design, and clean coding practices
Strongly Preferred
- Experience with retail, POS, ERP, inventory, finance, CRM, or operations platforms
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms
- Experience with mobile app backends, especially for React Native or Flutter applications
- Experience with Azure, AWS, or similar cloud platforms
- Experience with microservices or modular monolith architecture
- Experience with event-driven systems, queues, background jobs, or integration-heavy platforms
- Experience with AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, Windsurf, or similar
- Experience modernising or stabilising legacy systems
- Exposure to data privacy, audit logs, access control, and enterprise security practices
