About the Role
Responsible for managing and maintaining the Looker platform hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role ensures platform stability, security, and performance while enabling self-service analytics for business users. The administrator will handle user management, governance, performance tuning, and integration with GCP services like BigQuery.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Looker on GCP infrastructure.
- Manage Looker environments (development, staging, production) and ensure high availability.
- Perform upgrades, patches, and monitor platform health.
- Create and manage users, groups, and roles in Looker.
- Implement row-level security (RLS) and enforce governance policies.
- Ensure compliance with organizational security standards.
- Connect Looker to GCP services (BigQuery, Cloud SQL) and other data sources.
- Validate data models and ensure accurate reporting.
- Monitor query performance and optimize LookML models.
- Configure caching and scheduling for efficient dashboard performance.
- Manage LookML projects using Git for versioning.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for Looker deployments.
- Define SLIs/SLOs for Looker services (e.g., dashboard latency, query success rate, scheduled delivery success), manage error budgets, and prioritize reliability/backlog accordingly.
- Build end to end observability (metrics, logs, traces), golden signals dashboards, alerting policies, and incident runbooks; reduce toil via automation.
- Lead incident response (on call), postmortems, blameless reviews, and continuous improvement actions; implement progressive rollouts and safe rollbacks for LookML/platform changes.
- Perform capacity planning and performance analysis (BigQuery slots, concurrency, Looker cache/PDT capacity), forecasting growth and preventing cost/perf regressions.
