As a Technical Writer UX Senior Associate, you will create and maintain content for various Google Ads Help Centers within our scope. This includes internal and external help pages and the Google Developer Sites. Here is a preview of content that we own and manage: Google Ads Help and Google Search Central for Developers
Technical Writers educate and empower both external and internal Google users by understanding existing knowledge base articles, tech tips, and release notes; while working closely with a diverse group of stakeholders from across the business. Drawing from a wealth of resources and established practices to translate product concepts into concise, clear, and digestible content.
Position Responsibilities
Technical Writers Will
- Work with a team that manages various Google Ads Help Center articles, developer sites, and other content sources
- Take up requests to create or edit content through a lifecycle of drafting, coding, revising, and various stages of peer and quality editorial reviews—self-managed in an internal ticketing system, while guaranteeing accuracy, efficiency, and completeness
- Work with a diverse group of stakeholders, including engineering and product leads and team members to create clear and compelling written and visual content, while strictly adhering to Google’s style guide and content models
- Review user-submitted feedback, fix broken links and missing language translations, and update product terminologies
- Submit drafts and pre-published content to Senior Technical Writers for peer review and QA audit, while ensuring that work is up to standard with style, grammar, and process guides
- Liaise with different departments including agencies that produce multimedia content, and language translation teams
- Have direct involvement and ownership of additional projects and initiatives that focuses on process improvement and excellence, often involving an analytical approach to data captured through feedback
- Work during required business hours and be responsive to shifting business timing needs, and work under certain degrees of process ambiguity
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- You have 2-5 years experience in web technical writing, web usability (UX) practices, product documentation, or online publishing, preferably focusing on developer-centric content. This includes researching and synthesizing pages of technical product documentation source materials and translating those into digestible content
- You are familiar or have experience writing technical content articles for these topics or product areas:
- Technical documentation for developers, dev tools, dev-ops
- How-to guides, user guides, and API references
- Software development concepts, programming languages, SDKs, web technologies
- Source code (for example: JavaScript or Python)
- Having these capabilities is a requirement for the job:
- Able to create visuals and flow diagrams that will help enhance technical support content
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Markdown, or XML, or DITA for the purposes of drafting and writing technical content within a technical CMS environment.
- Writing within a style guide or following a set of standards for the writing, formatting, and designing of web-based documents.
- Prior experience being a Front-end website content developer is a plus
- You must have excellent English communication skills (written and oral) and stakeholder management skills. Experience working with global stakeholders, engineers, or developers to improve the user experience (ex: design, UI)
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands on experience writing technical content using HTML code and Javascript, Markdown, XML, or using the DITA framework
- Familiar with Google Ads, digital marketing concepts, and SEO
- Understanding of version-control systems like Git or SVN
- Working experience in a support-related function (data analyst, training, quality, project management, etc) within an in-house/outsourced business operations environment is an advantage
