About the Role
This role has a mandate to lead the Solution Engineering team for large-scale DIGIT product implementation across the globe, ensuring the success of the DIGIT platform and facilitating accessible, efficient, and transparent service delivery to ordinary citizens in vital areas such as health, urban management, sanitation, and public finance.
We are hiring motivated and talented professionals with skills and experience in designing scalable products/solutions, leading and mentoring the technical team, and mastering modern full-stack architectures. In this role, you will architect resilient systems—including dynamic App Builder engines and Offline-First mobile capabilities that allow field workers and citizens to record data seamlessly without network connectivity until back online. You will navigate dynamic multi-stakeholder landscapes, demonstrate architectural pragmatism, and take direct ownership of product quality through automated testing and AI-assisted QA tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Requirement Analysis & Design: Lead requirement analysis and technical design for specific Solution requirements. Propose and evaluate options for design and automation, bringing a fresh perspective and imaginative ideas/approaches to complex problems.
- Offline-First & App Builder Architecture: Architect dynamic form engines/DSLs and zero-data-loss synchronization frameworks (client-side queuing, idempotency, delta sync) for mobile apps operating in zero-connectivity environments.
- Code Quality: Review code to ensure adherence to architecture, design patterns, coding standards, and best practices. Ensure engineering practices for security, performance, and reliability are strictly met.
- Automated QA & AI Testing Strategy: Own solution quality natively by establishing automated testing frameworks and integrating modern AI-assisted QA tools into CI/CD pipelines.
- Delivery & Cross-Team Leadership: Work with Delivery Manager and Program Managers to create technical plans, synthesize information from different teams, consolidate it effectively, and ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
- SDLC Thought Leadership: Provide thought leadership throughout the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including system analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Team Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and inspire the development team across locations, cultivating an environment of resourcefulness and technical excellence.
Required Skills & Experience
1. Education & Leadership Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in any field with IT experience.
- Total IT experience of 6 to 10 years (with 6-8 years of hands-on exposure to web and mobile application technologies).
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple software/technology projects across locations and guide teams through end-to-end development and implementation.
2. Core Software Engineering & Web/Mobile Stack
- Languages & Frameworks: Hands-on experience in Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, open-source technologies, dynamic languages (e.g., Python), and Web Services.
- Web & Mobile: ReactJS and Flutter, alongside native Android (Kotlin), Dart, and local SQLite database management.
- Design & Architecture: In-depth understanding of Design Patterns, REST concepts, Microservices architecture, and API Gateways (Authentication, Authorization, Rate Limiting).
3. Data, Caching & Search Engine Stack
- SQL Databases: Hands-on experience with Postgres / PSql or any other SQL database.
- Search, Caching & Streaming: Hands-on expertise with Elasticsearch & Analytics, Kibana, Redis, and Apache Kafka.
4. DevOps, Contracts & API Tooling
- API Specifications & Testing: In-depth knowledge of Open API Contracts (Swagger) and Postman.
- Build & Version Control: In-depth knowledge of GIT, Maven, Jenkins, and YAML/JSON.
- Containers & Orchestration: Hands-on familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Cloud & Observability: Exposure to AWS/Azure, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and monitoring/logging stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki).
5. Quality Assurance & Project Management Tools
- Test Automation: Experience with performance and functional testing tools and integrating AI-assisted QA tooling into release pipelines.
- Project & Docs Tools: Familiarity with project management tools (JIRA, Asana, Trello, Microsoft Project) and documentation/collaboration tools (GIT, Gitbook, and similar tools).
6. AI Tools
- Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot for AI-assisted design, development (Customization & configurations), testing and deployment.
7. Problem Solving & Soft Skills
- Logical & Analytical Ability: Strong ability to solve complex logical problems, compare various technical options, and decide pragmatically.
- Communication & Presentation: Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and business leaders.
- Operating Style: Suited to a compact organization setting where teamwork and resourcefulness are highly valued. Ability to work independently and proactively, without support staff and with minimal supervision.
- Domain Advantage: Prior exposure to the urban governance sector, public sector, development sector, or consulting is an added advantage.
