The Opportunity
This role is pivotal in transforming INOPC into a global center of excellence for GIS structural engineering, directly supporting the Swiss production unit and contributing to Hitachi Energy’s commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability. The Team Leader for GIS Steel Structural Engineering has the responsibility to lead the technical team to deliver structural engineering of GIS order execution being handled by GIS Production unit in Switzerland to the satisfaction of end customer in the highly competitive market. Develop competency of the team and become world class engineering centre for structural engineering within Hitachi Energy GIS business. Implement the strategy from business unit and drive necessary changes.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Lead a team of project Lead Engineers (LE) to execute customer projects in collaboration with project engineering team and Technical Project Managers (TPM) from Operating Unit (OU) (Swiss).
- Guide the R&D support engineer in resolving issues by providing expert technical guidance.
- Guide the Project Lead engineers in technical meetings, planning with other structural engineering Team Leads & TPM, and clearing customer / site queries. Address all project escalations and process them appropriately.
- Ensure, Quality and on-time Delivery of all engineering deliverables from INOPC to customer. Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Cost is the order or preference in Hitachi Energy. The role will also collaborate closely with quality and implementation experts to drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure the team is adhering to the requirement of the L6S (Lean Six Sigma).
- People management including performance management and rewards and recognition of the LE team. Implementation of Structural Engineering Strategy of OU, drive continuous improvement projects (CIPs) in collaboration with OU and other OPCs.
- Training / coaching and development of team members to maintain the highest competency in the team to handle all critical project requirements.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
- Have Civil Engineering degree (Masters or Bachelor) with minimum work experience of 10 to 15 years of Steel Structural Engineering in projects, preferably in Substation or GIS projects.
- Have exposure in Leading a team to achieve the targets set by organisation and business units.
- Must have knowledge and skills in Structural Engineering calculations, Finite Element modelling & detailing, supporting fabricators & site team.
- Knowledge & Experience MS Office. Drive changes through CIPs and L6S tools.
- People & performance management Advanced proficiency in STAAD, Idea StatiCA, and ETABS is preferred. Familiarity with ANSYS and 3D modeling tools such as Tekla is a strong advantage.
- Skills and knowledge in GIS / Electrical substation knowledge and structural requirements of GIS, knowledge in Adonis, xECM and other similar process modelling and mapping tools are an advantage.
- Good knowledge of process structuring & process management.
- Soft skills on conflict resolution, cross-cultural collaboration, strategic thinking and coaching and mentoring. Strong attention to technical detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.
