Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Team Lead, Capital Projects. The Team Lead will oversee the execution, coordination, and successful delivery of diverse capital projects. Responsibilities include managing project timelines, budgets, and resources, as well as collaborating with teams to ensure regulatory compliance and efficiency. The individual will play a key role in risk management, stakeholder communication, and driving innovative strategies to enhance project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Capital Projects Accounting function across a large-scale real estate portfolio, ensuring accurate financial reporting and CapEx compliance.
- Oversee end-to-end CIP (Construction in Progress) accounting, including project setup, cost allocation, and timely asset capitalization upon project completion.
- Monitor and control CapEx budgets across multiple concurrent projects, tracking actuals vs. approved budgets and reporting variance analysis to senior leadership.
- Review and approve project-related journal entries, accruals, purchase orders, and vendor invoices in coordination with the project management team.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual MIS reports and financial statements for capital projects to finance leadership and stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP / IFRS accounting standards, SOX compliance, and internal controls related to capital expenditure.
- Coordinate with construction teams on draw schedules, lien waivers, retainage settlements, and contract billing.
- Manage the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation schedules, in line with company capitalization policy.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, account reconciliations, and capital project documentation.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of capital project accountants by setting KPIs and ensuring quality and accuracy of deliverables.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams including tax, legal, and asset management on project-related financial governance.
- Drive process improvement and standardization across capital accounting workflows using ERP systems such as Yardi, SAP, or JD Edwards.
- Oversee multi-project financial tracking, ensuring alignment between project timelines and accounting milestones.
Qualifications
- B.Com / BBA Finance (minimum); CA / CPA / ACCA / MBA Finance preferred
- 5–8 years of experience in Capital Project Accounting
- Prior experience in a team lead or supervisory capacity
- Real estate or construction industry background preferred
