About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Team Lead- Technology to lead and supervise a team of software developers responsible for building scalable healthcare technology products for the US market.
This role combines technical leadership, team supervision, software architecture, product understanding, and delivery management.
The candidate will work closely with product managers, business analysts, solution architects, quality assurance engineers, healthcare subject matter experts, and US-based stakeholders. They will be responsible for guiding developers, reviewing technical designs, maintaining engineering standards, resolving delivery challenges, and ensuring that products are scalable, secure, interoperable, and maintainable.
Strong experience in US healthcare technology, healthcare interoperability, EHR integration, HL7v2, FHIR, APIs, and scalable application architecture will be highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Team Leadership:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of software developers working across frontend, backend, database, API, and integration layers.
- Assign development tasks based on priorities, team capacity, technical complexity, and individual competencies.
- Monitor team performance, delivery progress, code quality, productivity, and technical ownership.
- Conduct regular technical discussions, code reviews, one-to-one meetings, and performance feedback sessions.
- Support developers in resolving complex technical issues, production defects, integration challenges, and architectural problems.
- Create a collaborative engineering environment that promotes accountability, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Technical Ownership and Solution Design:
- Take technical ownership of assigned products, modules, platforms, or development initiatives.
- Translate product requirements, business workflows, and healthcare use cases into technical designs and implementation plans.
- Define solution architecture, module boundaries, API structures, data flows, integration approaches, and technical dependencies.
- Ensure that technical solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with the overall product roadmap.
- Review technical designs, database structures, API specifications, workflows, and implementation approaches before development.
- Balance immediate delivery requirements with long-term product architecture and platform sustainability.
- Identify technical risks, limitations, dependencies, and performance concerns at an early stage.
- Recommend suitable technologies, frameworks, tools, and development practices based on business and product needs.
Product and Requirement Collaboration:
- Work closely with Senior Product Managers and Business Analysts to understand product objectives, customer requirements, and healthcare workflows.
- Participate in product discovery, requirement-gathering sessions, technical workshops, and solution discussions.
- Evaluate the technical feasibility of proposed features and provide effort estimates, risks, alternatives, and dependencies.
- Convert business and functional requirements into structured technical tasks for the development team.
Healthcare Technology and Interoperability:
- Lead the development of healthcare applications involving EHR, EMR, clinical systems, payer platforms, provider platforms, and healthcare data exchange.
- Provide technical guidance for solutions involving HL7v2, FHIR, REST APIs, healthcare interfaces, and interoperability platforms.
- Supervise integrations with EHRs, medical billing systems, practice management systems, laboratories, pharmacies, imaging platforms, and external healthcare services.
- Ensure accurate, reliable, and secure exchange of clinical, administrative, financial, and operational healthcare data.
- Support the design of reusable healthcare integration services, connectors, and APIs.
- Review interface specifications, message mappings, data transformation rules, validation logic, and error-handling workflows.
- Troubleshoot interoperability issues involving message delivery, data mapping, authentication, reconciliation, and system communication.
Architecture and Scalability:
- Guide developers in designing modular, reusable, and scalable software components.
- Establish and enforce application architecture, coding standards, API conventions, and engineering best practices.
- Review application performance, database performance, integration reliability, system availability, and scalability.
- Support the design of SaaS, multi-tenant, cloud-based, API-driven, and enterprise healthcare platforms.
- Work with architects and infrastructure teams on deployment models, environments, availability, monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Identify technical debt and create structured plans for refactoring, modernisation, and platform improvement.
- Ensure that new features integrate effectively with existing systems without compromising reliability or maintainability.
- Promote the use of reusable services, shared libraries, configuration-driven capabilities, and standardised development patterns.
Software Development and Code Quality:
- Remain hands-on and contribute to design, development, troubleshooting, and code improvement when required.
- Review code for quality, security, performance, maintainability, and compliance with coding standards.
- Ensure that developers follow object-oriented design principles, clean code practices, and appropriate software design patterns.
- Establish suitable branching, version control, pull request, code review, and release practices.
- Ensure adequate unit testing, integration testing, technical documentation, and peer reviews.
- Prevent the accumulation of avoidable technical debt and repeated defects.
- Support the modernisation of legacy applications, services, APIs, and integrations.
- Promote effective debugging, logging, exception handling, and monitoring practices.
Delivery and Engineering Management:
- Lead technical delivery across assigned projects, modules, or product releases.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, effort estimation, daily meetings, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Break complex requirements into manageable development tasks and implementation phases.
- Track development progress, dependencies, blockers, defects, and delivery risks.
- Ensure that technical deliverables are completed within agreed timelines and quality expectations.
- Coordinate with QA, DevOps, product, implementation, and support teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Resolve technical blockers and escalate delivery risks to senior management when necessary.
- Support release planning, deployment validation, production verification, and post-release monitoring.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Participate in meetings with US-based clients, partners, vendors, and technical stakeholders.
- Explain system architecture, integration workflows, technical dependencies, and solution approaches in clear business language.
- Conduct technical discovery sessions and understand client infrastructure, workflows, systems, and integration requirements.
- Represent the technology team during product demonstrations, implementation planning, and issue-resolution discussions.
- Manage technical expectations and ensure that commitments are realistic and achievable.
- Communicate delivery status, technical risks, incidents, dependencies, and corrective actions.
- Build confidence with clients through structured communication, ownership, and reliable execution.
Security, Compliance, and Reliability:
- Ensure that applications and integrations follow secure development practices.
- Support compliance with HIPAA, healthcare data confidentiality, access control, and audit requirements.
- Ensure appropriate implementation of authentication, authorisation, encryption, logging, data protection, and role-based access.
- Review technical solutions for potential security, privacy, and compliance risks.
- Work with relevant teams to address vulnerabilities, security findings, and compliance gaps.
- Ensure that sensitive patient, provider, payer, and client information is handled securely.
- Define appropriate backup, recovery, error-handling, and business-continuity considerations.
- Support incident investigation, root cause analysis, and preventive action planning.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of professional software development experience.
- At least 4+ years of experience leading or supervising a software development team.
- Strong experience in backend, frontend, full stack, platform, or enterprise application development.
- Practical experience in solution design, application architecture, APIs, databases, and system integrations.
- Experience working with US-based clients or distributed international teams.
- Strong understanding of Agile software development and product delivery processes.
- Experience in sprint planning, effort estimation, code reviews, release planning, and technical risk management.
- Ability to translate product and business requirements into technical designs and development plans.
- Strong debugging, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to mentor developers and manage technical performance.
- Ability to work onsite in Kolkata during night-shift hours aligned with US business operations.
