GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

 

Provide leadership and coordination in the implementation, development, and improvement of division-wide instructional programs. Work closely with the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent for Administration and the Central Office supervisors/directors to communicate effectively with the school administrators, teachers, and students and with the community on instructional issues.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

 

  1. Leads the central office staff, principals, and teachers in planning instructional programs.

 

  1. Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans for improvement of

 

  1. Communicates the instructional needs of the school system to the

 

  1. Assists schools in developing and implementing school improvement

 

  1. Coordinates the placement of student

 

  1. Coordinates the preparation of curriculum guides and pacing

 

  1. Leads the central office staff, principals, and teachers in implementing instructional programs.

 

  1. Coordinates the instructional activities of the supervisory

 

  1. Facilities the implementation of instructional

 

  1. Provides leadership for the county-wide textbook adoption process and for the selection of instructional materials in cooperation with building principals, central office supervisors, and

 

  1. Leads the central office staff, principals, and teachers in evaluating instructional programs.

 

  1. Works with supervisors, principals, and teachers in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of instructional programs in individual

 

  1. Works with central office staff to assist schools in the development of school improvement plans for accreditation and

 

  1. Coordinates the administration of instructional

 

  1. Coordinates, plans, implements, and evaluates the professional development of the instructional

 

  1. Supervises the implementation of the evaluation system for professional

 

  1. Keeps school personnel and the public informed of the status of instructional programs.

 

  1. Assists with the preparation of the instructional

 

  1. Evaluates instructional staffing needs and makes recommendations to the superintendent.

 

  1. Supervises the work of the following supervisors and/or directors: supervisor of secondary/career technical education, director of middle school education, supervisor of elementary education, supervisor of special education & homebound/home-base, director of federal programs and testing/ supervisor of educational technology, and the truancy assistants.

 

  1. Develops efficient division-wide instructional policies and

 

  1. Develops positive relationships between the school division and other governmental agencies.

 

  1. Develops positive working relationships between central office personnel and school

 

  1. Maintains instructional documents such as the program of

 

  1. Supervises attendance services.

 

  1. Facilitates communication with the

 

  1. Plans, implements, and evaluates a communications program for the school

 

  1. Serves as a liaison to community groups, local colleges and

 

  1. Other Responsibilities:

 

  1. Monitors home schooling

 

  1. Supervises the state and federal

 

  1. Coordinates the summer school

 

  1. Coordinates the truancy intervention program in cooperation with the Court Service Unit and the Department of Social

 

  1. Attends meetings of the School Board and other specified

 

  1. Organizes, coordinates, and facilitates instructional staff meetings and appropriate committees.

 

  1. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of schools.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Thorough knowledge of K-12 education principles, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching and administration; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working

 

relationships with the central office staff, school administrators and staff, students, parents, and community members.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  1. Holds Postgraduate Professional Certificate with endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
  2. Doctorate preferred.
  3. Has at least seven years combined teaching and administrative/supervisory experience, preferably at different instructional levels secondary level preferred.
  4. Central Office and secondary level experience preferred.
  5. Possesses excellent oral and written communication
  6. Has demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

 

Must possess demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with other supervisors, principals, assistant principals, teachers, students, and parents as attested to by the Division Superintendent of Schools. Candidate must possess good moral character.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

 

Frequent walking, standing, stooping, going up and down stairs, and lifting up to approximately 30 pounds are performed typically in this administrative position. Occasionally may have to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Other limited physical activities are required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Regular contact with central office staff members, school administrators, teachers, students, and community members is required. Frequent contact with parents and other community members by phone and in person is necessary.
