Role Purpose
The Talent & People Operations Manager is responsible for managing Centre-level people operations at the Centre of Excellence in Design (D-CoE). The role supports the recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and well-being of interns and contractual staff, and ensures structured handling of people-related matters, including grievance redressal and dispute resolution.
This role functions in coordination with the Human Resources office, while independently managing day-to-day people operations specific to the Centre, ensuring continuity of programmes and a healthy working environment.
2. Scope of the Role
The role covers:
• Interns (short-term, long-term, project-based)
• Contractual employees and programme staff
• Programme-linked technical and non-technical roles
• Any other duties as needed by organisation.
3. Key Responsibilities
3.1 Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
• Coordinate recruitment of interns and contractual staff based on programme
requirements and timelines.
• Work with programme heads and technical leads to define role descriptions, skill
requirements, and expected durations.
• Manage application intake, screening, interview coordination, and selection
documentation.
• Maintain an updated talent pipeline for recurring and anticipated Centre needs.
3.2 Onboarding & Induction Management
• Design and manage Centre-level onboarding processes for interns and employees.
• Ensure completion of joining formalities, documentation, and Centre-specific inductions.
• Communicate expectations related to conduct, reporting structures, and programme deliverables.
• Act as the first point of operational support during the initial onboarding period.
3.3 Intern & Employee Engagement
• Serve as the primary Centre-level contact for interns and staff for non-technical
concerns.
• Conduct structured check-ins at defined intervals to assess engagement, workload, and
well-being
• Identify issues related to motivation, integration, or role clarity and take corrective
action.
• Support initiatives that foster a professional, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
3.4 Retention & Continuity Support
• Track intern and employee tenure, engagement status, and programme alignment.
• Identify early indicators of attrition risk and coordinate interventions with reporting supervisors.
• Support extension, transition, or exit processes for interns and contractual staff.
• Ensure knowledge continuity through structured handovers and documentation where applicable.
3.5 Performance & Conduct Support
• Coordinate Centre-level performance feedback processes in consultation with technical and programme leads.
• Support documentation related to performance concerns, improvement plans, or role transitions.
• Address issues related to punctuality, attendance, professionalism, and adherence to Centre norms.
• Ensure all actions are fair, documented, and aligned with institutional guidelines.
3.6 Conflict Resolution & Grievance Redressal
• Act as a neutral and confidential contact for interpersonal conflicts or work-related grievances.
• Facilitate structured resolution processes, including mediation and documented discussions.
• Maintain confidentiality and impartiality in all grievance-related matters.
• Escalate issues to Centre leadership or central HR as required, with appropriate
documentation.
3.7 Policy Implementation & Process Governance
• Support implementation of institutional and Centre-specific policies relevant to people
operations.
• Ensure interns and staff are informed of applicable rules, codes of conduct, and
processes.
• Assist in drafting, updating, and maintaining Centre-level SOPs related to people
management.
• Ensure compliance with institutional norms without duplicating central HR functions.
3.8 Coordination, Records & Reporting
• Maintain accurate records related to recruitment, onboarding, tenure, and exits.
• Track Centre-level people metrics including hiring volume, engagement, retention, and
grievances.
• Prepare periodic summaries and reports for Centre leadership to support planning and
decision-making.
• Coordinate with administrative and HR offices as required
4. Required Skills & Competencies

• Experience in people operations, talent coordination, workforce management, or
academic administration.
• Strong understanding of intern management and contractual employment
environments.
• Ability to manage sensitive issues with professionalism and discretion.
• Strong documentation and process management skills.

5. Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor of Commerce or BBA with 10 Years of relevant experience (or) Master of Commerce or MBA with 8 years of relevant experience in related discipline.
• Proven professional experience in people operations, talent management, workforce administration, academic administration, or organisational roles involving significant
responsibility for people management.
• Demonstrated experience in managing end-to-end talent lifecycles, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and exits for interns and/or employees.
• Proven experience handling employee and intern grievances, conflict resolution, and sensitive interpersonal issues with discretion and professionalism.
• Experience working with multi-level stakeholders, including senior leadership, faculty members, technical teams, and early-career professionals.
• Strong track record of process ownership, including development and implementation of SOPs, policies, and structured workflows related to people operations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
6. Reporting & Institutional Alignment
• Reports to designated Centre leadership.
• Works in close coordination with programme heads, technical leads, and central
administrative offices.
• Operates within institutional governance and policy frameworks
7. Salary
Consolidated salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from
INR 70,000/- to INR 1,20,000/- per month. Final salary determination will be based on the
candidate's performance during interviews, their relevant experience, and other pertinent factors,
ensuring competitive compensation aligned with qualifications and achievements.
8. General Conditions
1. Duration: The positions are on contract and will be temporary for a period of ONE year and renewable annually for a maximum period of 5 years, based on satisfactory performance and at the discretion of the authorities of the Institute.
2. Selection Method: Interview for short listed candidates will be held at Indian Institute of Science Campus, Bangalore.
3. Applicants who possess the minimum educational qualification as on the date of advertisement only need to apply.
4. Candidates would be expected to work on any of the three shifts including night shifts and holidays, except for the female candidates.
5. No accommodation will be available on the Institute campus.
6. Admissible age relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PH will be extended.
