Job Summary:
We are looking for a detail-oriented Takeoff Engineer responsible for performing quantity takeoffs from construction drawings using trade-specific plans, cost codes, and project documentation. The role involves identifying scope items, extracting accurate quantities, marking up drawings in the company platform, and ensuring proper classification of quantities based on construction trades and cost code structures.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of civil engineering drawings, construction estimation processes, and the ability to interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings for quantity extraction.
Key Responsibilities:
Quantity Takeoff Activities:
- Review project drawings, specifications, BOQs, and tender documents.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from architectural, structural, and trade-specific drawings.
- Identify measurable scope items based on project requirements.
- Extract quantities such as concrete, steel, masonry, drywall, finishes, earthwork, piping, electrical components, and other construction elements.
- Validate quantities against drawing revisions and project scope changes.
Cost Code & Trade Mapping:
- Assign quantities accurately based on predefined cost codes.
- Map extracted quantities to relevant construction trades (Civil, Structural, MEP, Finishes, etc.).
- Ensure alignment with company estimation standards and client-specific cost code structures.
- Maintain consistency in quantity classification across projects.
Track3D Markup & Documentation:
- Mark drawings using the Track3D platform for visual quantity verification.
- Create and manage trade-specific markups for quantity tracking.
- Ensure proper documentation of assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications.
- Maintain audit-ready records of quantity extraction and revisions.
Coordination & Quality Control:
- Coordinate with project managers, estimators, BIM teams, and operations teams for scope clarification.
- Cross-check quantities for accuracy and completeness.
- Support preconstruction and bidding teams with estimation inputs.
- Participate in QA/QC processes for takeoff validation.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of quantity surveying and estimation principles
- Experience in trade-specific quantity takeoffs
- Familiarity with cost codes
- Strong knowledge of civil, structural, and MEP components
- Attention to detail and high accuracy in quantity extraction
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
Preferred Tools & Software:
- AutoCAD
- Bluebeam
- Planswift/OST (On-Screen Takeoff)
- Excel
- BIM tools exposure is an added advantage
Educational Qualification:
- B.E / B.Tech in Civil Engineering
- Diploma in Civil Engineering (with relevant experience may be considered)
Experience Required:
For Experienced Candidate:
- 1 to 1.5 years of experience in quantity takeoff / estimation / preconstruction
For Freshers:
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and quantity estimation concepts
Preferred Candidate Profile:
- Civil Engineering background
- Exposure to preconstruction workflows
- Understanding of US construction standards is an added advantage
- Ability to work in a fast-paced technical operations environment
- Good communication and coordination skills
