Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Pipe Foreman to lead field crews in the layout, installation, and backfilling of sewer, water and storm pipe on active construction sites. This role works closely with the General Utility Superintendent and Superintendent to plan sequencing, maintain productivity, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of a 2–5 person pipe crew
- Operate heavy equipment to excavate, install, and backfill pipe
- Plan and sequence pipe installation to avoid conflicts with other trades and public impact
- Monitor the jobsite for safety hazards and enforce company safety standards
- Ensure proper operation and care of assigned equipment
- Review job cost and production to keep work within budget
- Review and approve employee time reporting
- Maintain professional communication with project owners and inspectors
- Safely mount and dismount heavy equipment as required
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience as a Pipe Foreman or in a similar leadership role
- Strong understanding of underground pipe installation, grades, and site sequencing
- Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications
- Effective communication with management, crew members, and project stakeholders
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Physical Requirements
This position requires significant physical activity throughout the workday, including:
- Standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods
- Lifting and carrying materials up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 90 lbs occasionally
- Working with hands overhead and operating hand and power tools
- Climbing in and out of equipment and excavations up to 15 feet deep
- Walking on uneven ground in varying weather conditions
- Maintaining awareness of multiple activities and moving equipment on active jobsites
- Ability to obtain confined space certification as required
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions
- Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and heavy equipment
- Regular work around moving machinery and construction materials including fuel, oils, and concrete products
