Description
T.E. Stevens Construction is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator – Class B with a minimum of three (3) years of experience operating heavy construction equipment, including bulldozers and excavators. While this operator may not have the advanced proficiency of a Class A operator, they should be capable of completing general excavation, grading, and site preparation tasks with supervision and guidance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate bulldozers and excavators for site development, trenching, backfilling, and grading
- Assist in general earthmoving and utility installation projects
- Follow directions from supervisors and work closely with ground crews and other operators
- Read and interpret basic grade stakes and instructions for excavation and backfill
- Perform pre-operation equipment inspections and report mechanical issues
- Maintain clean and safe work areas around equipment
- Follow all company and regulatory safety protocols, including MSHA and OSHA requirements
- Support higher-level operators and crews as needed
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and improve technical skills over time
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating bulldozers and excavators
- Ability to perform basic grading and trenching tasks under supervision
- Basic understanding of job site layout and construction plans
- Familiarity with pre-start checklists and minor equipment maintenance
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to assigned job sites
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and a commitment to safety
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
- Knowledge of GPS or laser-guided equipment systems
- Experience working on MSHA-regulated sites
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Outdoor work on active construction sites
- Frequent climbing, kneeling, lifting, and use of heavy equipment controls
- Exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery, and uneven terrain
- Use of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) is mandatory
