About the role
This
role sits within the Workplace Technology Collaboration team, part of the Tesco
Workplace Technology engineering function. As a Systems Engineer I, you will
contribute to the engineering, configuration, and delivery of collaboration and
productivity technology across Tesco, including M365, Exchange (Hybrid), Teams,
SharePoint, OneDrive, Power Platform, Copilot, and related Microsoft
technologies. You will work closely with senior engineers and architects to
implement features, deliver platform improvements, support project work, and
drive automation and consistency across our collaboration services. This role
is engineering‑focused, with an emphasis on configuration,
scripting, testing, documentation, and safe delivery, ensuring our platforms
remain secure, resilient, and user‑centric.
You will be responsible for
Engineering & Delivery:
• Implement
configurations, updates, and feature enhancements across Exchange Online,
Hybrid Exchange, Teams, SharePoint Online, Copilot and OneDrive.
• Translate design
guidance and requirements from architects and senior engineers into high‑quality technical implementations.
• Support delivery
of collaboration technology projects, including configuration rollouts, policy
deployment, and service enhancements.
• Participate in
POCs, testing cycles, validation activities, and structured release processes.
• Maintain
engineering documentation including configuration records, implementation
steps, and support guides.
Automation & Tooling:
• Develop and
maintain PowerShell scripts to automate provisioning, policy deployment,
configuration checks, and reporting.
• Contribute to
reusable automation modules aligned with team patterns and standards.
• Use Microsoft
Graph (basic to intermediate) where applicable to support engineering tasks.
• Identify
automation opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve consistency across
collaboration services.
Platform Governance & Configuration Hygiene:
• Support
governance frameworks across Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange.
• Assist with
implementing and maintaining secure, compliant, and standardised configuration
baselines.
• Ensure
engineering work aligns with Tesco's security principles, including Zero Trust,
MFA, modern authentication, and appropriate access controls.
• Contribute to
compliance‑ready
configurations across data sharing, permissions, and collaboration policies.
Service Reliability & Continuous Improvement:
• Help identify
recurring issues and contribute engineering fixes, improvements, or automations
to address them.
• Use logs,
dashboards, and monitoring tools to validate platform health and configuration
impact.
• Maintain
awareness of new Microsoft 365 features, productivity tooling, and Copilot
developments relevant to engineering.
• Support
engineering efforts that improve reliability, performance, and user experience
across collaboration tools.
You will need
Hands‑on experience (8 years) working with
Exchange Online / Hybrid Exchange, Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive.
• Strong PowerShell
skills for automation and admin tasks.
• Understanding of
Entra ID (Azure AD) fundamentals (groups, access, identity flows).
• Familiarity with
Microsoft 365 security concepts: conditional access basics, MFA, secure
configuration patterns.
• Ability to
troubleshoot across multiple layers (identity, configuration, network
fundamentals, endpoints).
• Comfortable
working within structured processes for change, deployment, and documentation.
• Clear written and
verbal communication for collaborating with peers and documenting work.
