Job details:
STQ Partners are currently working with a high growth & fast paced AI, Computer Vision, Detection & Drones business with a leading inventory solution for a range of sectors including Warehouse, Distribution, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical & Retail Logistics.
Due to growth, they are now seeking to appoint a Systems Architect to join the business.
The Systems Architect role will be accountable for both the Fullstack and WMS integration teams. You will be responsible for stabilizing and de-risking the data and platform layer by eliminating scalability bottlenecks, retiring compliance and reliability debt. Work to establish production-grade observability, database governance, and performance standards. Be aware of single-thread dependencies from critical systems (DB, latency-sensitive APIs, MHEV access paths etc.), and can introduce repeatable operational patterns (reviews, runbooks, RCA automation etc.). Produce a solid forward-looking scale plan that allow the team to shift from firefighting to predictable execution.
Responsibilities:
- Own Architecture - align backend, frontend, platform, and infrastructure decisions into a coherent, enterprise-grade architecture
- Replace "firefighting" with predictable execution - lead the effort to retire scalability and reliability debt, safely upgrade critical infrastructure, and reduce single-threaded dependencies
- Set the standard for engineering technical hygiene - drive high-level decisions on testing strategies, validation guardrails, and system design concerns that directly impact delivery speed and maintainability
- Modernize and scale existing production systems by applying database-level strategies (schema evolution, replication tradeoffs) and platform primitives (orchestration, runtime constraints) as architectural tools
- Elevate the organization by establishing shared practices, aligning terminology, and mentoring senior talent across the engineering team
- Establish a deep understanding of data systems, latency-sensitive services, and failure modes
Qualifications/Experience:
- Computer Science or Engineering degree
- 8+ years of experience (outside academia)
- Previously built large, scalable architectures
- Distributed Systems experience - mastery of performance-sensitive REST APIs, caching strategies, and core distributed systems concepts.
- Relational Data Systems experience - expert-level PostgreSQL (upgrades, query tuning, replication tradeoffs, and schema evolution) and advanced SQL.
- Cloud & Containers - deep experience with Azure and/or AWS and production-grade Kubernetes/Docker
- Backend Development experience - strong production experience in Node.js and/or Python
- Reliability & Security - hands-on experience with Observability (logs, metrics, traces), CI/CD, SRE fundamentals (SLIs/SLOs), and security hygiene (IAM, secrets management).
- Experience in logistics, warehouse systems, or robotics-adjacent platforms is a plus, but not required.
- Organizational Maturity
- AI-Ready - applied classical ML and next-gen LLM/VLM AI
If you want to work for a high growth & fast paced AI, Computer Vision, Detection & Drones business who are aggressively scaling, we look forward to hearing from you.
