Role Overview
Sybase DBA responsible for managing maintaining and optimizing Sybase databases on IBM AIX systems ensuring high availability performance and security for critical applications
Key Responsibilities
Install configure and maintain Sybase ASE databases on IBM AIX servers
Perform database creation upgrades and patching of Sybase environments
Manage database devices storage allocation and capacity planning
Implement and monitor backup and recovery strategies full incremental transaction logs
Perform database restores and disaster recovery operations
Monitor database performance and tune queries indexes and stored procedures
Troubleshoot performance issues including blocking deadlocks and long running queries
Configure and manage high availability solutions replication failover mechanisms
Handle user management roles and database security controls
Work with OS level tuning and resource management on AIX systems
Automate DBA activities using Shell scripting
Monitor database health and set up s for proactive issue detection
Support application teams in SQL tuning and deployment activities
Perform data migration refresh and environment cloning activities
Ensure compliance with audit and security standards
Troubleshoot production incidents and perform root cause analysis RCA
Maintain documentation for database configurations and procedures
Provide 24x7 production support in rotational on call model
Coordinate with infrastructure and application teams for issue resolution
Stay updated with Sybase technologies and willing to cross skill on other databases cloud.
Required Skills
Strong experience in Sybase ASE administration
Handson experience with AIXUnix systems
Expertise in backup recovery performance tuning and troubleshooting
Knowledge of replication and HA setups
Good scripting knowledge Shell
