Mortgage Loan Officer

Position Summary

The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for originating residential mortgage loans by developing referral relationships, advising borrowers on appropriate financing solutions, and facilitating the loan process through application approval and closing in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and bank policies.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain referral relationships and prospect new mortgage lending opportunities within the assigned market
2. Meet with borrowers during the application process to determine financial objectives, take complete and accurate loan applications, and review credit profiles to recommend appropriate mortgage solutions.
3. Collect required documentation and submit complete loan files to the assigned processor.
4. Apprise borrowers of available pricing scenarios and initiate rate locks in accordance with bank policy.
5. Coordinate with the processor to support movement of the file through underwriting and closing to achieve on‑time, compliant closings.
6. Provide ongoing communication to borrowers and referral partners, setting appropriate expectations to ensure a high level of customer service.
7. Comply with the policies and procedures established by Susser Bank.
8. Perform all duties in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
9. Maintain the security and confidentiality of all pertinent information and records.
10. Maintain current knowledge of mortgage products, guidelines, and regulatory requirements, and complete required training and professional development.
11. Demonstrate professional, courteous, dependable, and self‑motivated behavior, maintaining a professional environment in appearance and conduct.
12. Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.

 

Education and Experience Required

1. Minimum of 1 year of residential mortgage lending experience.
2. Knowledge of conventional and/or government lending guidelines.
3. Demonstrated success in prospecting and lead generation.
4. Consistent record of meeting/exceeding production goals.

 

Skills and Abilities Required  

1. Strong understanding of PC‑based hardware and operating systems.
2. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
3. Strong problem‑solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
4. Organization and time‑management skills with the ability to multitask.
5. Ability to adapt to change.
